Bloodlines
Specific bloodlines have specific roles in the verse.
Five Great Charters knit the land
Together linked, hand in hand
One in the people who wear the crown
Two in the folk who keep the Dead down
Three and Five became stone and mortar
Four sees all in frozen water.
The Five Great Charters is the majority of the Charter marks on which Old Kingdom magic is based, however, two other Charters became the structure which supports it.
One: The Royal line. Rulers of the Old Kingdom, thought to have all been murdered.
Two: The Abhorsens. Necromancers who are responsible for keeping the Dead dead.
Three, Five: The Wallmakers. Inventors of the highest caliber. They were the ones who made the Wall.
Four: The Clayr. Seers, who collectively are able to focus on clear mental images of the future. Individually, they see only glimpses. (Most stay in their glacial home)
A Remembrancer is someone with both the Abhorsen bloodline, and the Clayr bloodline. They can see the past, though they have to enter Death to do so. The farther into Death they go, the farther back they can see.
Blood of anyone connected to the Charter can be used to break Charter stones*, though the Great Stones require the death and blood of one in any of the main bloodlines.
