Comics!

Man, is it just me, or is there not a lot going on in the comics world?

'Ringo's doing a new spiderman book, and there's Wildsiderz. But with the Whedon / Cassaday run over for a bit (Or is it? I remember reading that they were going to do some more, but that there would be a 12 mo. delay in it. But I never heard more beyond that.)

I finally, finally got my first issue of Serenity #1 in . . . and I haven't read it. Jess liked it, though she didn't care much for the art (Which I didn't either). I also picked up the first volume of Age of Bronze and a book called Mu.

Mu was really cool, until I found out that its based on a computer game and then it basically wasn't as cool any more, and I have no idea why. I really want to get the Exalted comic, and that's based on a RPG, but for some reason, the wind just went right out of Mu's sails without so much as a "by your leave". Meh.

I'm not really sure where to begin with Age of Bronze. Its extremely well written, and the art is better than 99% of stuff out there. Real clean stuff, and since I spent most of last week chuckling over the evisceration of Rob Liefeld from the people at The Drawing Board, the confident lines and smooth inks, combined with deft storytelling and characterization that expresses something other than Anger (or is that constipation?), well, I really dug it.

Except that I hate it.

Because its about the Illiad. And the only person in the Illiad who is worthy of my sympathy is Hector. And he is hardly ever the focus of the story. Paris is the focus of this volume, and I am amazed at the way people just roll over for him. Someone should have given him a giant spanking and sent him back to herd cattle until he grew up. Grr. Grr.
