FILL so darlin' what do you say? (does that sound like a plan to you?) [1/2]
"No, no wait!" Jaehwan cries as Kyungri begins to push open the door to their new apartment. Balancing a box of shoes, she turns to him.
"What? What's wrong? Did we forget something again? Is it- ack!" Kyungri squeaks as Jaehwan sweeps her into his arms bridal style, jostling the box in her hold and sending it tumbling onto the lawn grass. "Lee Jaehwan!"
"I must carry you into our new hovel," her boyfriend announces importantly as he clutches her close and nudges the door open the rest of the way with his foot. "To ensure any reluctance you have to live with me may fly fearfully out the door along with bad karma and evil spirits."
Kyungri raises a brow. "Which one of your superstitious websites are you quoting this from?"
Jaehwan readjusts her in his grip. "TigerWife.com."
"You're weird."
"You're sassy."
"You're so not my type."
"You're so my type."
Kyungri's face warms with a pink blush and her smile is too wide to hide behind her hands. "Well... good." Her heart swells when she sees Jaehwan has a similar grin on before he turns to face the apartment.
"Wow," he marvels. "This place is huge."
Kyungri rolls her eyes but her smile stays. "I doubt the house grew at all since the last time we saw it, Jaehwan."
"It's all a matter of adjectives, my dear," Jaehwan proclaims, kicking the door shut behind him as he steps into the empty flat. "Five weeks ago, it was the apartment. And now..."
He tips his head to peck Kyungri on the cheek, feeling her arms curl around his neck.
"And now," Jaehwan repeats, finishing his thought with his eyes trained on Kyungri. "It is our apartment.” He wiggles his eyebrows. “Never underestimate the power of adjectives."
Kyungri's peel of laughter rings clear in the empty apartment. When she has settled into cute giggles, she teases, "Okay, Mr. Grammar Freak. Where to next?"
"Onward!" Jaehwan begins a comical march. "To the royal kitchens!"
FILL so darlin' what do you say? (does that sound like a plan to you?) [2/2]
The kitchen is neither royal nor plural, but perhaps all it needs to be is-
"A dance floor," Jaehwan proposes immediately, setting Kyungri down on the bright tile floor. "Perfect area for a little pie pan dancing, eh?"
Jaehwan smirks playfully and brackets his arms around Kyungri, trapping her between himself and the counter. "Now you ask me, 'Why, Jaehwannie, my huggy bear boo, what, pray tell, is this silly pie pan dancing you speak of?'"
"Oh, you-"
"Go on," Jaehwan insists, jutting his lower lip out exaggeratedly. Kyungri glares at him.
"Fine. Jaehwan, what on earth is-"
"Ah, ah, ah. No, Kyungri. You have to say it exactly how I did."
"For goodness'- Why, Jaehwannie, my huggy bee-"
"Bear."
"-bear boo, what, pray tell, is this silly pie pan dancing you speak of?" Kyungri's hands are firmly planted on her waist and her face burns red, with anger or embarrassment (or both) Jaehwan can't tell, but at least it's cute.
"I'm so glad you asked, my sweet!" Jaehwan coos.
"You're embarrassing and stupid and weird and I hate you," Kyungri huffs.
“Oh? What’s that? You want me show you some pie pan dancing?”
“But,” Kyungri sputters as Jaehwan tugs her to the center of the kitchen floor. “There- there’s not music! We can’t dance to nothing.”
Jaehwan clears his throat dramatically, cupping a hand around Kyungri’s waist and holding her hand with the other. “I am your personal jukebox for today. Hit me with a track.”
Kyungri’s eyes light up at the prospect of hearing Jaehwan singing and she seizes the opportunity, bouncing on the balls of her heels lightly. “Surprise me.”
Jaehwan pauses for a moment, absentmindedly waltzing them around the kitchen, before letting out a small “Ah!” and twirling Kyungri to a hoppier rhythm.
”You were sittin’ at the coffee table where you’re reading Kierkegaard,” Jaehwan begins in accented English. Kyungri’s heart surges with warmth when she recognizes the song- their song- and she steps to the cheerful beat, mouthing the next lines while Jaehwan sings them. ”Minutes later, you proceeded to say something that almost broke my heart…”
Their fingers interlace as they dance by pastel cupboards, silly smiles playing at their lips.
”You said, ‘darlin’ I am tired of livin’ my routine life. There is so much in the world that I’d like to soak up with my eyes.’”
”Well, baby, I never did stop you from going out to explore,” Kyungri sings back, removing her hand from his shoulder to poke his nose. Jaehwan’s eyes crease adorably into half-moons and his nose crinkles.
As the kitchen brightens in the late morning, they chorus together, ”We can do it all together from the colds of the poles to the tropics of Borneo…”
Their waltz slows, halting on the way to the living room. ”Badada bada ba…”
Swinging their connected hands at their sides, Kyungri raises herself on tiptoe and gently kisses Jaehwan, a chaste reward for his efforts.
Darlin’, just you and me…
The sun peeks through a wide window over the sink, a sweet kiss of warmth against their wedding bands.
Just you and me.
