[Parker is, once again, doing her laundry very early in the morning in the hope of avoiding everyone. To pass the time, she's sitting cross-legged on a counter fiddling with a boxful of locks.]
Thanks, lovely. <3lost_undercoverNovember 6 2010, 04:46:58 UTC
[Costigan enters with a duffel bag of some clothes, coming straight from his morning run and a fresh shower. He's only in slightly large jeans and a white t-shirt, not having expected anyone else to be here at this time of the morning. He offers Parker a small smile of acknowledgment and then moves past her to begin to load one of the washers with his things, dropping the duffel on top of the other washer between them.]
[Parker glances up at Costigan, determines that he isn't any particular threat, and goes back to her locks. Oh right, people are supposed to acknowledge each other's presences. She gives him a curt nod before returning to her if-I-ignore-him-he'll-go-away strategy.]
[The former Statie continues with his laundry until it's all loaded, then grabs the detergent. In trying to pour a modest and entirely unmeasured amount of wet liquid into the washer, he catches the edge and spills half of the cup on himself and half into the washer as planned. In response, he mutters a simple:] Shit
( ... )
[Quick changes in close proximity with guys is nothing unusual for Parker, so the shirtlessness isn't a problem, but the fact that coming onto her even crossed his mind is a little off-putting. Well, at least he says he isn't.]
"It's fine," [she says, pressing her lips together into a thin line as she absently gives her pick a particularly hard wrench and the lock she's working on snaps open. She... might have just broken the locking mechanism. Oops.] "I don't care."
[Costigan nods, running a hand through his short hair. The former undercover crosses his arms and shifts to lean back on the unoccupied machine between where Parker is sitting and his clothes are washing. He glances over at the small, metallic noise to notice the lock in her hand and the box in her lap. A small smile emerges on his lips as he tries to make conversation with some lighthearted teasing.] You like playing with broken locks?
"They're not usually broken," [Parker says, oh-so-casual, trying to hide the fact that she hadn't meant to do that. She dumps the lock back in the box, pulls out one that still works and starts fiddling with it.] "I like locks." [Still oh-so-casual, totally detached from the conversation, and emotion in general.]
[Costigan watches for a moment, then pauses as a thought occurs to him. His expression shifts into something more genuinely curious as he continues to watch her, turning enough to partially face her.] Are you any good at picking them?
Finished season 1 of Leverage tonight! Great show. :]lost_undercoverNovember 8 2010, 07:05:16 UTC
Yeah? You ever use that skill around here? Pick into other peoples' cabins or whatever?
[Okay, so, Costigan's not generally a bad guy, but he's still an inmate for a reason. Parker reads to him as an opportunity to get more dirt on his warden, dirt which he can use right now. Or maybe a help for he and Rex, if nothing else. Skills like that, if she isn't lying? Worth gold. He jumped fences and beat people for information; lock-picking was never his thing.]
[Parker doesn't look up at him, instead concentrating on the lock in her hand for a few moments before answering with an as-neutral-as-possible,] "I could."
Sorry for slow.lost_undercoverNovember 11 2010, 07:20:38 UTC
That's a good skill to have. You should be careful who you tell, though.. I'm sure a lot of inmates would want to take advantage of it. [He was trying to sound nonchalant. Parker didn't seem interested in social interaction, or maybe it was just him she didn't want to associate with, and he didn't want to push her down any path she didn't want to go.. Not for some lock picking, not unless it was needed.]
What kind of payment you talking? [He asked before he even realized he was asking. There was no regret when his mind caught up to his words, though, and his head turned to look at her with a slightly questioning expression.] Money's not really good here.
[Parker finished with the lock in her hands, dumped it back in the box, and reached for yet another.] "Money doesn't have to be good for anything. It's money."
