i dont know why i thought it was a good idea to move here.  i've been known to complain about the breeze at the north carolina beach on summer nights!  i think the perfect weather is 85 degrees, sunny, and bone dry!  and i thought it'd be swell to move to minnesota?  yeah, ok, sherlock.  good thinking ( Read more... )

you should. you'll be done with undergrad, and you should give yourself an interlude to think about what you want to do next. even if you dont travel with me, you should go somewhere to relax and think and explore.

i know it sounds impossible right now, but i've been doing research and it's totally feasible IF you start saving. i'm giving up eating dinner out, going to bars, buying new clothes, a new car, and basically anything that's not a necessity. you can do it angela! and it will be sooooo worth it!

"an interlude to think" "go somewhere to relax and think and explore"
that's exactly what i want to do. i've only bought necessities (textbooks, a pair of winter boots, and rent & utilities) thus far since coming back to school.... given, it's only been four days. it would help to have a goal i'm saving for, rather than a vague idea that something in the future may cost money.

and i've been desperately craving travel for at least a year now. and unlike most everyone else, or so it seems, i DON'T mean a semester in europe to get drunk. i need a new experience.

I wandered through Xi'an all by my English speaking lonesome. I held babies with giant slits in their pants, listened to street vendors, rode on a moped with a stranger, and danced on a stage in some obscure club. I raced around an ancient city wall on a bike and actually saw the terracotta soldiers. Go Kate. Go before you have kids and a family. It's inspiring, amazing and fulfilling.

i am going to! i'm just a little bit terrified, and i wonder if i would be okay traveling by myself since the only traveling i've ever done is in the US. well, guess there's only one way to find out...

i hate when college students go to foreign countries solely to get smashed and buy cheap weed and perpetuate ugly americanism. LAME.

goals are good....they help me save money and force me to go to work even when all i want is to call in sick. read "vagabonding: a guide to the art of long-term travel" by rolf potts and "one year off" by david cohen. they will change your life, no joke.
