I went to The Colbert Report on Tuesday! :) It was awesome.

The Colbert Report taping was soo great! It was a lot more fun than the Daily Show, although that was great, too. First of all, we got to see the "turtle lady." Apparently this 73-year-old Hispanic woman often walks her 20-year-old South African tortoise named Chacha (short for "muchacha") outside of the studio. Here's a pic, with some random kid playing with the tortoise:

We waited in line for 2 hours again, waited inside for about almost an hour. But once we got into the studio, they had a comedian that talked with us for a long time, so it made the wait much more enjoyable. The studio is very small, about half the size as the Daily Show's. The audience is almost about half the size... maybe 100 people compared to 200 at TDS? AND... my mom and I got in the FRONT ROW. More about that later.

So the comedian was great. He told us the story of Stephen stealing Bill O'Reilly's microwave... well, as he said, Stephen actually made his interns steal it. And then when a security guard asked what they were doing with the microwave, Stephen just said, "O'Reilly said I could take it" and kept walking. Then the comedian said, "And guess what we discovered was inside it when they got back to the studio? A BABY!" haha. "He eats babies!!"

There was a really big Colbert fangirl on the other side of the front row, she had a "BEARS: #1 Threat to America" T-shirt (which I had considered buying to wear to the show, glad I didn't now hehe). She was probably about my age, very enthusiastic. She was the first person in line, so she and two other people got to go up and touch Stephen's desk.

The set is so cool, it has so many little doo-dads everywhere. Even just the studio itself had random books on shelves and you could see all the innerworkings where the different crew people were, unlike the Daily Show where all that backstage stuff is hidden.

SO, then Stephen himself came out to do a Q&A. OMG, it was so awesome. As I said, we were in the front row so he was literally like a foot in front of me at one point. I could have reached out and touched him. Actually, I had the chance too, but I missed it. When he came out for the Q&A, he ran down the front row with his hand out like he does on TV sometimes, but I guess my arm was too short, and he just missed my hand. :( hehe. He was so nice and fun, just like I knew he would be. He was less self-conscious than Jon. During the commercial breaks, he danced along to the music like a nut. He pointed his fingers like guns at us and sang along to the sexy songs, singing them to his crew and guest John Amaechi.

Anyway, during the Q&A, #1 fangirl asked him if we'd ever see Charline (sp?), and he said, "No, she has a restraining order against me, so I don't think so." hehe. And some guy gave him a frozen Hot Pocket and Stephen put it in the O'Reilly microwave... in the plastic. haha. Some people in the audience warned him he needed to take the plastic off, but he was like, I like my Hot Pocket in melted plastic. 2 minutes later, he took it out of the microwave and took a bite (the plastic hadn't melted, don't worry)... but it still looked gross.

Stephen messed up in the opening, so we had to do it over again. He also messed up in the closing, so we had to do that again, too, haha. They don't start over if he makes a mistake in the middle. When he messed up the first time, #1 fangirl called out, "We love you!" and when he messed up in the closing she said, "It's all good!" Stephen said, "It's worth it just for that." He said he only had two more days left after this and then they were on vacation, so he was just trying to get through til then if his mouth would let him. Oh, also, if you saw the show on Tuesday, and you remember at one point, Stephen says about the audience, "I think these people over here need medical attention," that was about the crazy #1 fangirl and her friends, hehe.

The show was just so much more relaxed than TDS, maybe because there were less audience members. Also, Jon just seemed really tired, which is understandable since he's had the show for what like 10 years? And TCR is only about a year and a half old, so Stephen isn't exhausted yet. Or maybe he's so tired he gets hyper, hehe. And I swear sometimes he would look at me, at least our general direction, during commercial breaks while he was dancing and singing and it was so weird. I couldn't make eye contact with him for more than a second haha.

The audience had a line at one point, we had to say "the war!" My mom and I are on camera during that! :)

The guest, John Amaechi, was really cool. I had seen him on some other talk show before. He's the first NBA player to come out publically as gay. When Stephen runs across to the guest to the audience's applause, my mom and I are on camera again. :) And it's online, on comedycentral.com!

I could only get this video to work once... I think my computers aren't set up right to see it, so you might have problems too, but it might work. When they show the audience, me and my mom are in the front row.

And here's a screencap:

Haha, nice, huh?

After the show was over, "California" by Rufus Wainwright started playing, which I was very happy about, because he's my absolute favorite singer. :)

So yeah, I had an awesome time! I'm really glad I got to attend both the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

P.S. If you missed my post about The Daily Show, it's over here.
