Actually, this comment is addressed to everyone else, since fortuna_juvat herself knows all this just like I do.

USMLE Step III licensure exam, which gets taken sometime in the next two years? $670. Federation Credential Verification Service -- which is either a preferred or a *required* part of ultimate licensure, necessary for moonlighting, fellowship, or eventual practice? $295. Actually *applying* for that license? More multi-hundreds. The American Board of Internal Medicine Board Examination? $1230. Not counting the costs of interviewing for the next position, of course -- which might begin as early as 18 months from now. And waiting at the end of it all: the end of deferment of our student loans and the point the bank starts demanding the principal and interest on a loan the size of a morgage. By which point, between the recession and (necessary) health care reform... our salaries, well...

So when fortuna_juvat worries about the cost... she's not just being a worry-wart. There's a lot of reasons that being a doctor in this day and age isn't a very nice experience. All of that would be one.
