Aah... so much has happened in the past several months, so much drama resolved, and I'm back to the dull summer existence. Working in the Law Center's new International Library (which is, by the way, quite nice, you should see it if you get a chance). Still have not started my internship -- Dr. Zlobin, aaa-oooh! (Those of you not of Slavic origins, it's like crying "hello! anyone there? where are you?") -- supposedly, he's thinking up an exciting new project which nobody's done yet. And I shall be in charge of it. However, he's still thinking... well, less work, I guess...
As for my family, my parents are in Belarus right now (and will be for the next three weeks or so) visiting my grandparents and some old friends. Also, they'll get to meet Marianna (my brother's fiancee) for the first time! She's going to meet them in Minsk at my best childhood friend's house. (When she traveled with Yury last summer, they stayed at my friend's place for a little while.)
Speaking of Marianna, my brother's leaving tomorrow for a 10-day rendez-vous with her in London. How awesome is that? So yeah, my family's out traveling. The only ones home are Kissik the cat (up in New Jersey) and Toshka and myself here in DC (ok, well, technically in Northern Virginia with Steve and his cat Puck).
I have finally resolved my financial issues with Georgetown (as in, they finally are changing back my status to undergraduate with grad coursework, and not the oposite, as they wrote before, making the financial people say i'd be responsible for all $52,000 of grad school tuition myself -- now, because of their mistake, they don't have too many funds left, so my aid is about 30% of what I got last year, but still, it's more do-able than the $52K). However, because of that, it's going to be difficult to save up funds to go to Moscow next summer for my brother's wedding (they decided to do it next summer, when all the paperwork will be done). I was actually hoping to save up enough to do some research and travel in Russia during next summer -- take a trip from Moscow all the way to Sakhalin... although I don't think I'll be able to get quite that far, it's still nice to dream. I miss my Muscovite friends, especially my favorite next-door neighbor, with whom I had lovely girlchats and tea.... Ah, the good days!
Oh, yes, in more actual news, Steve's house will be done in about four months, they already started clearing the area of trees (although, even when it's built, we'll have plenty of tree left on the five (!!!) acres).
That's about all. Summer's going pretty well.
Happy Fourth of July, all you Americans and others who care! ;)
