What I'll be doing -- briefly...

Well, first of all, yes, I am staying in DC this semester. France didn't work out because of this new (and unknown to everyone except for the consulate in NYC) law that doesn't allow former Eastern Europeans or Africans to be in France for over three months at a time (and no, the visa cannot be extended), so, after being completely and totally shocked, I figured I should go back to Russia so as not to waste the semester. I convinced GU to let me do it, but then there were some problems with Russian housing, the visa would have to be extended, and once again, I'd basically be going last minute into the unknown.

So, for a while I just kind of sat around not knowing what I could even do, thinking I'd be a bum for the rest of my life, when I realized I only need four more classes to graduate. So, this semester I am taking a leave of absence from Georgetown (my dean actually recommended it when he saw how many classes I already had!) -- but it's this weird leave of absence, since they all feel bad that the program didn't work out -- basically, I'm still considered a full-time GU student, and if I want to take courses at a university that starts later than GU, they'll count them for GU. OK, I think now I am officially the weirdest student at Georgetown, status-wise, at least!

So, I'll be staying in DC (well, OK, technically Arlington, VA) and working this semester (don't know where yet -- anyone got a job for me?) and possibly taking a course just for fun (a language course -- maybe Italian or Portuguese) at a local college.
