Plague report

Apr 14, 2010 22:10

So I've been sick for the past several days. I hope it's not strep throat, although it's not an ordinary cold, and it mostly seems to be better now. Glad it came at the end of my two weeks of hell (500 pages of student papers to grade, 6500-word public lecture to write and deliver, then revise within three days into a 9000-word article which my colleagues then read and discussed with me on Sunday. And about an hour before the end of the discussion of my paper, my throat started to hurt, and by the time I was driving home from my chair's place in Ann Arbor, it was REALLY starting to hurt. And then the fever, and then the exhaustion, and I actually cancelled class due to illness and possible contagion on Monday, which is almost unheard-of for me. (Yes, I'm one of those profs who believes in coming to class and spreading plague and knowledge simultaneously ...) And Julia also got sick on Monday, maybe about twelve hours after I started to feel ill, and has been laid up as well (fortunately, Arthur seems unaffected so far ...). Oh yes, also on Monday I learned that we owe the IRS a boatload of money because of a payroll snafu that led to not enough being deducted ... a lot not enough. So there's that too.
