Things are going well here at work, so I figure I deserve a break to write an update on the state of my life.

Our place is really quite excellent. True, the kitchen isn't quite big enough for everything we need to put in it, but it's new, it's clean, and it's still bigger than our old kitchen, just with less cupboard space. Having a whole lot of natural light in the kitchen/dining room is a pleasant change. The living room is fantastic - there's so much space, and I feel like we can actually entertain a group of people without everyone being crowded and cramped. It's too bad that Julia and I have to share an office, but since I'm at work all day it's not a great hardship. It's not like we really had separate offices in Toronto, anyway, just separate spaces in different common areas of the apartment. We still have to put up some more of our artwork, but I'm hoping to get that done one evening this week.

The neighbourhood is really fantastic, considering that I didn't know much about it when I took the place. It's so clean and quiet, and has so many amenities. The only downside is the long walk to the metro, but the buses run pretty regularly, and of course we have the car. I think that we really came to despise Montreal in the last couple of years we lived there, just because we were downtown where everything was so noisy and dirty and generally unpleasant. Sure, it was convenient, but it really soured us on the whole experience. Being in an actual residential neighbourhood is rather more positive. Of course, there's the whole language issue, but that's a post for another day.

I ran the first session of my new biweekly d20 campaign, The Vestiges, yesterday afternoon. My players (curtana, mousme, sorceror, ipanicked, gats, and the_lich seem to be enthused. I have a rough idea of where the general plot is going, and am trying VERY hard not to get too obsessed with fleshing out every little detail of this world, a la Flamfew or Perseity. While those were great campaigns, they ate my soul and crushed my productivity while I was running them. Vestiges is more combat-oriented and party-based, so I don't think it will be too much of a problem.

Arthur is really growing into a little boy, not just a baby. Every day now he takes at least a couple of unsupported steps, and is perfectly happy to stand unsupported until he gets bored/distracted and decides to get down and crawl somewhere. He has eight teeth now, and we think there are some premolars on the way soon. He's getting to be such a vocal little guy, too! I freely admit that other than occasional imitative syllables, most of it doesn't mean much to me, but he does very clearly and happily shout 'Dada' when I get home from work. Poor little guy must miss me. He's sleeping much better, too, although I think he may not really sleep through the night as long as he's nursing. At least when he wakes he's not up for very long, and doesn't make much noise.

Well, I was going to go into a long discussion of my department, this year's job search, and work-related issues, but I think I'll save that for another time. Back to work!
