By the Power of Music!

Today is obviously power music day. Dinosaur Comics and Slacktivist are both about power music and/or the power of music today.

Personally, I'm a huge sucker for big epic power music, be it ballands, metal, or whatever. Including Journey. There's just something about big epic musical awesome things. Probably that they're big epic and awesome.

I think you mean power ballads. "Power music" could potentially refer to power metal, or powernoise, or all sorts of other things that aren't really related. Maybe "epic music" would fit your meaning better (though Bon Jovi isn't usually considered "epic").

Also, you're missing a .html in that Slacktivist link.

And Blue Öyster Cult > Styx > Journey. I will admit to a weakness for Whitesnake now and then.

Nah, Power Music's the best. Epic wouldn't be bad either though. Then it could expand to include stuff like Muse's Knights of Cydonia.

There was a lot more I'd wanted to put into this post though, about like Meatloaf, and enjoying things without irony, even when they're ridiculous (kinda like the Bon Jovi hipsters mentioned over at Slacktivist) and that sort of thing.

But I lost my train of thought when I was writing this originally, so now it's what it is.

Yes!! I'm a sucker for both power ballads and epic metal. I like Journey because they fall very nicely in between. Speaking of which, have you experienced their new album yet?

No, I haven't. I don't think I actually have any of their albums. But I do enjoy the ones that show up on the radio, which is like six or so. And we had this old Atari game, called "Journey Escape" when I was a kid, too.

Oh man. I'm not sure if you've heard about it or not, but Journey recently got a new lead singer. They found him on Youtube singing in a club in Manila in the Phillipeans. They've just recently finished up their world tour, their new album is the first platinum they've had in a decade, and is a three cd set to boot (re-recorded classics, new album, and a live dvd). It's sold exclusively at Wal-Mart for around $11. Here, have a sample!

Here's a song that was written by Jeremy Hunsicker, the lead singer of a Journey tribute band. They nearly hired him, but he decided that he couldn't leave his pregnant wife to tour with them. After they found Arnel, they decided to include it on the album in tribute to him.

Here's another new song from the album.

The radio is not reliable when it comes to Journey. They've been snubbing all of their new stuff, and it's only because of the immense popularity of their Filipino singer that they are starting to get spins again. If you'd like, I can dig up some of their stuff that doesn't get much ( ... )

You might find a little German group called E Nomine a worthy addition to the name list, or possibly Kamelot.
