This is kind of an anecdotal story, but I think I can relate it here..
So have you heard about the Oriental White Dolphin? It went extinct a couple of months ago (maybe less. I can't remember.) Guys over there put together an organization to save it and all that. Last time they sent out an expedition to count them, they had some 30. This time, when they put together an expedition to actually save them, they found 0. Two ships traversing a very specific white dolphin breeding ground, and they found not a one.
Sometimes I wonder if it's all going to be a case of 'too little, too late'.
