Mishmash of awesome and . . . not.

Right, so if you haven't heard from me in a while, you can decidedly blame
harriet_vane  for that.  She is the gateway drug to staying up way too late watching British television and mining delicious for Misfits recs.  <3!

Basic premise is this: five juvenile offenders in the UK are struck by lightening during a storm and gain superpowers.  They don't save the world with them, rather, they save themselves.  It's wonderful.  Race-wise, Misfits has pretty darn good representation (though you have to watch out for the way some characters are sexualized), and not bad gender-wise.  As you can see here in kohler's analysis, Misfits doesn't always pass the Bechdel test - it fails, more often than not - but it's still a damn good show and I have high, high, pie-in-the-sky hopes for series 3.  (And yes, there are spoilers in kohler's post, so if you're vehemently anti-spoiler, you have been warned.)

This show is so good, I ship the freaking canon pairings.  I cannot even begin to explain it, but that is how brilliant it is.  There's amazing character development, plots you don't see coming, and it's damn funny to boot.  I can't even quantify who my favorite character is.  They're so good, all of them are at different times.  Nathan you want to slap/hug (to steal
harriet_vane 's term), you forever want to cheer on Kelly, Simon needs a giant fucking hug and to be told he's awesome, Alisha starts to grow up and is the most fabulous person when she lets you see who she actually is, and Curtis is just all-around fantastic.

WARNING:  Badassitude.  Also dancing.

As a starter vid, Ain't Born Typical is fantastic.  It's ensemble, so you don't miss out on any of the characters, and believe me when I say each of these actors are worth their weight in gold.  It doesn't give away more than you'd figure out in the first 20 minutes of the first episode, so I think it's safe for even those who want to remain spoiler-free.  It's clever, quick, and badass, much like the Misfits themselves.

Fandom:  Misfits
Characters:  Simon, Nathan

WARNING:  Heeee.  :-) There are some really good Simon/Nathan vids, which is a pairing I don't even remotely ship on the show, but in fanworks is tremendous and adorable.  My favorite is Light Outside, by greenfiend06.  It's lightearted and so, so pretty.  I don't normally enjoy vids that take scenes out of context, but I simply don't care with this vid.  The two actors (Iwan Rheon and Robert Sheehan) are good friends in real life, and their chemistry really comes through in this vid.
