PSA: Laughing at yourself is probably a good thing. Except when it leads to more (current) shame.

Have you ever stumbled across stories you lived and died for in your earlier fandom days and thought...wow.  What the hell was I thinking?  Is she...with him??  Actually...hmm.  Wait.  That's kinda...hot.  I think I'll just read the next one.  And.  Is that?  Holy shit, I can't believe I didn't remember-

And before you know it, you're sucked back in again.  Like a moth to that huge-ass flamethrower Jaques Pepin always wrestled out of Julia Child's shaky, arthritic hands.  Though I swear to God, she looked like she was going to punch him that one time he wouldn't let her flame the merengue.

Anyways, my point is, everyone's got fandom cycles.  When I was, oh, 13 or 14 I started with Lord of the Rings (Oh my god, Bagenders was the best fucking thing EVER), then Harry Potter (Astronomy Tower, what!), then moved on to fuck knows what (thank you, ff.net, for all those *delightful* virtual venereal diseases), went through an intensely shameful period where I would only read X-Men Movieverse (particularly Logan/Marie, come on, people) and then...well.  No one really needs to know what came next.  But!  Often - couple times a year, at least - I cycle back through and came upon some delightful little gems.  By which I mean stories that forced me to relive trying to hide fanfic - white print on black background, no less - from my host family in Spain.  Yeahhhh.  Good times.  Boy, did I use that time well, huh?

Well, I've got no idea what this post was originally going to be about.  No, I tell a lie.  I was going to post shame!links to some of my earlier teenanigans, but I'm having too much fun rereading them.  And now to save them for posterity!  Woot!

So, really...I guess this post was just to taunt.  And to remind you to reread old(er) fic!  You'll never know what shamespiral can result!

whaaaaatthefuck
