Jongdae's been asked more times than he can remember why he goes out with Zhang Yixing. Baekhyun asks him at least once a day, and a couple of his ex-girlfriends ask him as well, though Jongdae thinks they may just want to get back with him.
It's not as though Yixing isn't popular or anything. As far as exchange students went, he was definitely near the top of the list of being well-known and well-liked. He spoke Korean as much as he could, despite constant teasing over his accent, and he was polite with everyone he dealt with. He was an amazing dancer, and more than once he'd played on the international students' team for the regular soccer matches.
When it came to things even remotely intimate, however, the Chinese male seemed to struggle.
In all of their almost-nine months together, Jongdae couldn't remember a time they had ever held hands in public - and in private, Yixing never did so without asking first. They had kissed once, and it had been accidental and clumsy and Yixing had apologized so many times that Jongdae had eventually just kissed him again to shut him up, though he still only counts it as one.
He's quiet around Jongdae's friends; makes a point of not sitting too close to him, even if Jongin's girl-of-the-week is sitting in his lap or if Chanyeol's girlfriend is pressed against his side with her head on his shoulder or if all present have already vocally expressed their acceptance of their friend being openly affectionate with his boyfriend in front of them.
Yixing is no good with gifts - not an entirely bad thing since he's even worse with gift giving - and he's no good for dates, either, because he always lets Jongdae decide where to go, whether it's somewhere he likes or not. He spaces out during conversations and he's no good with surprises and he can't express himself in any way apart from dance. He forgets Jongdae's birthday and then he forgets his own and Christmas and Valentine's are forgotten as well.
But no matter how many flaws Baekhyun or anyone else points out, Jongdae simply smiles them all off and shakes his head and gives the only reason he could ever think of needing.
"Because I love him, of course."
