hey hannah, this is about the nuvaring: i keep it in for 4 weeks, and then take it out for 1 week. put it in for another 4 weeks, take it out for 1 week. this just extends my cycle to 35 days instead of the 28 that i'd have if i kept it in for 3 weeks and took it out for one. that way, each ring lasts me 5 weeks instead of 4, and so i save money 'cause i only have to buy 10 rings a year instead of 12. i pay $11 a ring, so it comes out to $10.40 a month if i use a ring for 5 weeks. that's the only reason i haven't tried skipping my period yet, lol.
if you check out nuva_ring or birthcontrol, you can find experiences of women who put it in for 4 weeks, take it out and then immediately put it another one, and only have a period every 3 rings this way, like you'd asked in the IM. this gives you a 90-day cycle. and it's successful for lots of people. i have never tried skipping my period on the ring yet, but i will try it for the first time this month. i'm gonna take the ring out on dec 28 and then put a new one in that day 'cause i don't want my period around new year's. i can let you know how that goes, but i won't have a ring in continuously for 90 days - i'll have this one in for 4 weeks, the next one in for 4 weeks, and then have a period. so yeah.
that was probably pretty confusing. but yeah, check out the communities, esp nuva_ring - i'm pretty sure people have talked about skipping their periods on there; if not, you can easily make a post and ask. :)
