Post credited to gothicangel18....LISTEN UP!!!

This is a post I am making public and am not putting behind a cut. Everyone should read it and hopefully, maybe I'll get some people to listen. If you think what I'm trying to say is important and needs to be heard, PLEASE repost it. It will do more good on several journals than on just mine. I'll post on Myspace too and ask people to repost. I find this an important topic that needs to be heard again and again, hopefully one time it will stick. I don't care if I sound like a prude.

Prom season is coming up, ours is on Friday. We had the mock crash in school today. After listening to what people said in the hallways, I'm very pissed off and saddened by some of the attitudes. Here's what I have to say.

Alcohol is not cool. When you get drunk, you act stupid and end up throwing up for the rest of the night. Your are not attractive when bent over a toilet bowl puking your guts out. You are not attractive acting like an ass. Beer breath is DEFINTELY not attractive. Yeah, everyone's laughing. But their not laughing with you this time, their laughing at you. You do not need alcohol to have fun, and what's the point of "having fun" when you don't remember it the next day or your regretting your fun because of your terrible hangover? It kind of ruins the point, doesn't it?

So after your all shitfaced and drunk, you decide it's time to go home and get in your car. Drinking and driving is not cool, it's not safe and you shouldn't do it. That "it'll never happen to you" attitude will come back and haunt you, if your lucky. If your not lucky, your dead on the side of the road. If your not dead, you've severly injured yourself and other people or maybe even killed someone else. Would you like to live with the knowledge that you killed someone? What would happen if you killed your best friend? How would you feel then? Would you feel that alcohol is so cool then? I bet not. Are having permanent scars for life cool? Is killing people cool? Didn't think so. Not to mention the smashed up car, which would be the least of your worries.

When you drink and drive, your not just affecting yourself. Maybe you don't care if you get into an accident. Fine, go kill yourself or severely hurt yourself. That's your perogative. But what right do you have to kill someone else? Is it fair that someone else had to pay the price for your actions? You decided to drink and drive. Your actions affect other people, sometimes more than they effect you. Are those drinks really that good that you'd sacrifice your life or someone elses for it? Would you want your last day on earth spend getting drunk? Your last memories to be of a serious car crash?

But maybe you don't kill you. Your two or three drinks effected someone else. Think about if a drunk driver hit and killed your sister, brother, best friend, boyfriend, whatever. How would you feel? You'd probably hate that person's guts for taking that person away from you. What if you were that person that killed that person? When you drive drunk and kill someone, you are taking away a life. An innocent life that has to suffer for your choice. Their family has to suffer for your choices. Do you want to live your life regretting those drinks? Isn't better not to have them at all and know that you never effected someone with your stupid actions?

If you do kill someone, there are more than emotional issues to deal with. Jail isn't really a bundle of fun. You'll spend your life in prison with a bunch of losers who will harass you and call you names and maybe even force you to do things you won't want to do. No more parties, no more days on the beach...nothing. Your life has changed. And when you get out, you get to do community service. How much fun is that? And you'll probably never be able to drive again. Is a couple of drinks worth ruining your life for? Honestly? No. Drink a soda instead. You might just save a life.

If you do decide to drink. Don't drive. Assign a designated driver who you know will not drink. It's not that hard to do. Don't be stupid. Don't think your too cool to have a designated driver. Don't think you'll make it ok. Be smart. Think. If there is no designated driver, stay the night or call your parents. Yeah, maybe you'll get yelled at. But it's a hell of a lot better than killing yourself or someone else. And imagine how much they'll holler at you if you do kill someone and end up in jail. They'll be even less happy then.

Be smart. Don't drink and drive. The life you save may be your own...or your best friends...or someone else best friends.
