Kira walked into his house and toed off his shoes. It was quiet so he assumed his mom was at work like she usually always was. Dropping his bag by the door Kira made his way to their kitchen to try to find something to make for dinner. As he passed the phone he noticed the blinking light symbolizing he had a message. Kira went over to the phone and pressed the button and listened as his mothers dull voice sounded over the speakers.
Of course she didn't have his cell phone number but it was unusual for her to call him. Then again this was only to tell Kira she needed something. She had left her house key at home and she wanted Kira to drop it off by the diner her shift wouldn't be over until early in the morning and if he didn't want to wait up for her he better drop the key off before he went to bed. ~Might as well do that now~ he thought as he went and put his shoes back on again after grabbing the keys by the counter.
Kira loved his mother even with all her threats about how she wished she didn't have him and her new developing drinking problem. She always hit and yelled at Kira for the dumbest things nowadays but Kira's body was used to abuse so he ignored it and lived with it. As he approached the diner he walked in and went up to the counter. Some older gentleman told Kira his mom had left for her lunch break and it would be awhile. Not wanting to leave only to come back he decided to wait and sat down at an empty booth.
One of the waitresses went up to him and asked for his order shortly after he sat down and Kira gave a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry I'm only waiting for my mom to come back off of her lunch break." The waitress pushed her glasses down and studied Kira a bit. "So your Shimada's son?" Kira nodded.
"You don't look like your mother but your a dead ringer for you father. Well he was a little bit more manly then you being all scrawny as you are." she pinched his arm. "And he only wore the glasses to read but the last few times I saw him he had gotten contacts and all." Kira stared at her in shock as she kept on ranting, this lady knew his father.
"What was his name? I mean mom just doesn't like to talk about him all that much so I never found out." Kira interrupted her and tried to calm himself down. The lady frowned in thought. "You know, I don't ever think she said his name. When they used to come over here all the time for their dates she only introduced him by a nickname, or I assumed it was a nickname and never his surname." Kira was becoming impatient. "All I know was that he was known as Gen." Kira took this down for notes later and was about to ask something else until he noticed his mothers hateful face starting at him. Kira jumped out of the booth and approached her.
"I brought your keys." he held them out and she snatched them away. Pulling him in a hug she whispered venomously in his ear. "Do Not Ever Come Here again. I don't need you talking shit about me to my co-workers do you hear me." she shook him slightly and Kira nodded before running off and away from her cold stares. Not wanting to go home after learning all this new information he decided to walk to the public library and study some more. He was getting closer to solving this mystery and that's all that mattered to him.
