As if this afternoon, I am officially employed at the Seattle Tennis Club. I took the bus down to Lake Washington, signed my soul away, and finalized my decision to stay in Seattle this summer. Not sure if I like the job yet (how could I? This job doesn't start for another couple weeks), but I love the neighborhood. It is quiet and beautiful ( Read more... )

I heard the Seattle Tennis Club is exclusive to white Christians the other day in class when we were talking about the Civil War Amendments and Plessy v Ferguson. Is it true?

As far as I can tell, it is exclusive to rich white people, christian or not. Yesterday, as I was browsing through the employee handbook the HR director told me, "It is our gentle way of telling you that we're pretty... conservative around here." Also, there were a couple of black guys applying for the same jobs I got so it will be interesting to see if they got hired.

On the website it says they are equal opportunity employers so maybe they are fine with hiring non-white people, but they aren't okay with them joining the club?
