Beginning week 5 as of this morning - 6 minute warmup, consisting of: 1 min walk, 1 min run. Stretch out again. Begin intervals - 30 sec walk, 5 minutes running. 5 intervals total; after the last one, walk for a minute then run 2 minutes, doing "high knee" exercises for the last 10 seconds.
I survived through the first 3 intervals this morning, but had to take an extended walk break to recover after #3. I needed a longer break after #4 too as my calves were cramping up a bit, but I wasn't (as) winded as after the 3rd one.
I need to get out three times this week and keep this up - hopefully make it through all five intervals. I'm thinking Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. Any of you fitness types care to join me?
Next week, I'll be at sea level. On a boat. Someplace warm, without snowstorms every third day (hopefully). Whee!
Oh, I made another running-related purchase: a cheapo $15 watch that can do countdowns, etc., and which beeps and lights up if you happen to be running in the dark. Douglas Adams was right about the human condition - sometimes, even I still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea. My first running purchases, a few weeks ago, were trail running shoes and Superfeet inserts - both of which have proved invaluable, since my other running shoes just don't have enough support for someone my size on uneven ground. I'm sure I'd have sprained an ankle by now, or something.
