Because I was in a fine mood until my sister brought up the subject of cake

To be put under the heading of it may seem like a good idea at the time, but really isn't:

Sharing (or so nearly sharing as it makes no difference) your birthday with your significant other/spouse.  BAD IDEA!

It is very romantic for the first year of two, but that is pretty much it.  My birthday is the day after my husbands.  I have always gone out of my way to make his day special-that is what a birthday is for.  And that includes having some sort of baked item to sing or wish over.  Something that he really likes.  Which means (among other things) not chocolate,  since he is allergic to chocolate.

I haven't had a birthday cake (or cookies or brownies or pie...) since?   Well, my mother died when I was 19, and she wasn't up to baking for the last few years in any case.  I don't expect something home baked, that isn't his area of expertise, but I am tired of the yearly explanation of "well there are still leftovers from yesterday."

I'm just glad that I put an end to the expectation of the joint gift every year...
