I hate the College Board and their website!  4 years of applications for financial aid (which, btw, you have to pay to apply for) and 4 years of dealing with their broken links and oops!.  4 years of giving them my tax returns, so they can collate the information and send it along to Columbia.  4 years of wondering how much of that info they hold ( Read more... )

Oh, we had to do the Fafsa, too. (and lovely form that is). My daughter goes to Columbia University, which, isn't the most expensive school in the universe, but is pretty close. They have their own financial aid programs and formulas, which take into account the Fafsa stuff, but also want a lot more info. They used to do it inhouse, but at some point, contracted the job to the College Board, which is a profit making organization. There actually is another form to apply for financial aid to pay for filling out the form, but I know my household doesn't fall into those guidelines, so pay to apply for financial aid, we do. The fee isn't alot, it just annoys me. Especially when the application software has breaks in it. (Not of course, the part where they collect their fee).

Looking throught the list of schools that use this particular aid application, it appears to be mostly the Ivy's and a couple of Ivy level other schools. Because of course, on of the broken spots in the software was where you type in the school code...I guess so you get to see all of the other lofty schools using College Board so you can feel grateful for the company?
