Fic: Questionable Moral Authority (the evil scientist AU)

Dec 21, 2007 00:31

So this was actually supposed to be a little bleaker, but apparently a tiny bit of humor snuck in there as well. *shrugs* What can you do?

Holy. Wow. I really don't have any words. I have a serious love of AUs, but this. This is seriously incredible. Just the whole concept of it, and oh god. Ryan BREAKS MY HEART SO MUCH at the end. Perfect.

Thank you so much! *smiles* I have no idea where the idea came from, but once it came, I immediately knew I had to write it. (Not)EvilScientist!Ryan is just too perfect to resist.

Yeah, I feel bad for him. The one time I don't write a happy ending... Does it help to know that, in my head, it takes about 5-10 years for Ryan to figure out how to keep Brendon up for days at a time (he keeps working at it over the decades, until Brendon can live almost normally) and that in the meantime, Brendon manages to focus his energy to spell "ILU" in morse code through localised power fluctuations in the building?

I think it works better that it's not a happy ending? There's the potential for one? And it's not like Ryan doesn't have the time to figure it out? A decade is a drop in the bucket for him at this point, you know?

UGH I DO NOT KNOW YOU, BUT I LOVE YOU AND YOUR BRAIN. MY HEAAAAAAAAART.

*nods* Thus why it remained in my head and, now, in this comment, as opposed to in the story. Not that I wouldn't like to have Ryan be happy and whatever, but... It would feel kind of like a cop-out ending. It wouldn't have fit. *makes face*

*laughs* Thank you!!! *bounces* Anything specific that brought this on?

i was actually heading out when this popped up on my flist. "Oh, I'll just read the first paragraph, see if it's something I'd like to read later...."

I'm now officially Late, but it was worth it. That was calm and beautiful and slightly creepy and very very good.

I'm (sort of) sorry I made you late, but I'm glad you thought it was worth it! *grins* Thank you! I was worried it wouldn't be creepy enough (damn humor, always sneaking in where it isn't expected...) so it's nice to hear you say that. And that you think it's beautiful. *smiles*

Thank you! Kind of. *blinks* I shoulder probably offer you an explosion-proof helmet, or something...

That'd be nice.

I read that as exposition-proof helmet, first, and was very confused.

This is probably one of the most original pieces I've seen around these parts. It reads like the set up to a sci-fi adventure movie I've never seen but most certainly would like to.

Your characters fascinate me, so much so that I would really love to see a longer fic set in this universe.

I'm actually a little speechless at the moment. Wonderful, wonderful job.

Thank you so much! I'm not sure how original it is - it was vaguely inspired by the fic where Pete is the personification of the internet - but I'm glad you liked it. *grins* Come to think of it, I might not mind seeing a movie of this, either...

Thanks! I've been thinking that there actually are some things I would like to expand on, so... We'll see. *smiles* And again, thanks for this lovely comment!

No, thank you! *smiles* I had to offer the little bit of hope; I'm too much of a happy-endings girl to end on a depressing note. I'm glad you liked it!
