This is pretty much the only photographic evidence of Ansel's first lap on the Nürburgring. Obviously, it really isn't evidence at all. He could have posed in his infant car seat, as I put it in the Golf; but that would have taken away valuable time I could spend driving. By the time the driving was done, it was too dark to stage convincing evidence.
So this is it. In the background, a picture of a Porsche 904. Watching Walter Röhrl drive this car in 2001, at Hohe Acht, pictured in the same frame, is one of my favorite memories of what now all of a sudden has become more than eight years on the Nürburgring.
