I had
no idea! Of course, Ansell isn't the same as Ansel, but people might snicker if my little buddy ever goes on a trip to Australia.
On the other hand, I read this:
[R]egarding the name "Ansel," which ranks very high among boys names in average education level of parents (Dov is #1), if you are going to name your kid after a celebrity in the hopes, probably forlorn, that he takes after him, it strikes me that Ansel Adams stood for an awfully fine combination of qualities you'd wish for your child to enjoy: nature and art, outdoors and indoors, national parks and museums, strenuousness and long life, aesthetic dedication and monetary success...
Not that I chose Ansel in any of those hopes. I read an interesting article that suggested the name a child is correlated with how much teachers expect, and thus "draw out" of the child in school. A name like Ansel may very well encourage teachers to try a little harder, because of course the child is gifted. Whereas a name like Female (a true name) may evoke an opposite expectation.
I find myself thinking of names to give my second child, boy or girl.
