If I was that interested in sex, I'd be having it with visions constantly. So I wasn't paying too much attention to the sex, which drew people in, but more what it represented.

No, he wasn't you - he seemed also a representation of yourself, a specific part. I'd say dedication, but that doesn't seem the right word. 'Push', perhaps. The urge and willpower to go after everything you want without looking back.
