It's been snowing since about 4am. There is about 4" of snow on the ground now and it looks wonderful. The weathermen all predict that it will continue to snow most of the day and level off somewhere around 8pm. There should be a LOT of snow by then.
Since it is Saturday, most of the cars are still parked and they are all covered in snow. It's so peaceful.
I went out to sweep off my car in case I needed to go somewhere and noticed that all my bird feeders were empty. Poor winged creatures were STARVING. So, I quickly waddled my butt back in the house and got some bird feed. I filled all the feeders. I put a new suet block in the suet cage. I still had about a cup of bird seed left in the pitcher, so I made small piles along the edge of my patio.
I no sooner made it back inside my apartment when a lone Northern Finch hopped over to the biggest pile on the ground. He took a sample then began to chirp like his life depended on it. In no time there was a flurry of activity as no less than 20 birds appeared at the buffet. I see a pair of woodpeckers, 3 mourning doves, 2 northern finches, 2 starlings, 5 chickadees, and a BUNCH of sparrows of varying type. I'm sure that at some point later there will be the larger visitors of Cardinals and Bluejays. Strangely, I don't see them nearly as much here as I used to when I lived in Alabama. I'd expected to see much more of them than I have.
So, I'm all settled in with herbal tea in my mug, tappity tapping away on the computer...ready for a long quiet Saturday. After I'm caught up on my online "dailies" I will probably migrate over to the loveseat near the sliding glass doors just to watch my "babies" fighting over the seeds. Feeding them is so inexpensive but so fulfilling. I can sit and watch them for hours. They really bring my joy.
