You're right Amanda, experience is something you gain after you need it.
On Saturday I started to make another "friendship band" thingy. Unlike the first one I made, this one required the knots to go in a counter-clockwise direction. After a few tries and a rather ugly mass of knotted string, I gave up and resorted to the method I knew. So what if the diagonal lines were going in the wrong direction? That really didn't bother me.
Last night I finished the bracelet, and it looked fine. It would have been senseless to beat myself silly until I figured out the counter-clockwise knots......
A couple minutes ago, I decided to try the counter-clockwise knots one more time on the left-over string (should I want to make more complicated bands, I would have to learn sooner or later). And sure enough, I got them on the first try! It took me all of ten seconds to get it right.
