Tonight Puff and I briefly swung by a house that is for rent, a pretty impressive property for the rental price, complete with a pool and finished basement. The perks of home owning without all of the responsibility, maybe? I'm not going to get my hopes way up. It's the first space we've found, and there are a lot of factors left to contend with and many questions to ask. The house next door is strange, a weird display of modern architecture with some new age crap engraved into it. The owner also had no qualms with very obviously staring at us as we walked down the block to look at the rest of the street. I'm now convinced the current owners are renting out the house because this man practices some bad juju with his "Azteciture" (this is what the side of the house said).
It is daunting to get the wheels in motion for a bigger space. We're actually looking for townhouses, but there are many houses for rent, which I assume is a reflection on the poor economy. Whatever the case, I suspect we'll have to go through a rental agency to find what we're looking for. My research tells me most townhouses are not listed through the traditional means.
I'm really aggravated with the rental agencies I have found. I'm exhausted over Chicago's popular opinion that life only exists on the northern end of the city. I'm growing more and more convinced that I'm not supposed to live here anymore, if only because I seem to break the mold when it comes to choice of neighborhoods. All the agencies I've found deal with the North Side and the Northern Suburbs. They don't go any further south than either the South Loop or Bridgeport. But if they can go to the Northern burbs can't they also go to the Southwest Side and it's neighboring burbs? Give me a fucking break. Not everyone wants to live in Wicker Park or Logan fucking Square. (Or Skokie?) I was embarrassed for the agent I spoke to who did not know my neighborhood. "Clearing? Garfield Ridge? I've... never heard of those." I feel like I'm living Pride and Prejudice without Mr. Darcy, making judgments because I feel judged.
Whatever the case, the goal is to have the new rental property before the end of the year. I'd like to have it settled by October, because we've paid this month's rent.
There is also the fear that I'm biting off more than I can chew, but it's time for an upgrade.
