Character name: Mara Mendel Mayuri (she is very excited about the fact that her initials spell ‘Mmm.’
Character age: 16, about to turn 17
Character grade: Rising senior for the new school year.
Character gender: Very female!
Werewolf, vampire, or human: Human
Appearance (a celebrity to relate to can be handy): Medium height for a girl (5’5), reddish-auburn hair depending on the light, wide smile, expressive dark eyes that are always alert due to a caffeine high. She always wears her hair in braids or pigtails. PB Danielle Panabaker.
Personality: Mara may as well be a vampire because she never sleeps! There’s always something to be done, whether it be cleaning or schoolwork or shopping or cooking or any other íng’word. She’s a Type A personality, a perfectionist, anal retentive and exuberant about everything. She always gives better than her best. She loves to talk and ‘dazzle’people with random facts about anything, and she always has a million questions because “the one who asks the most questions learns the most!” Mara is a friendly person but is sometimes not aware that she gives people headaches. If she knew that, she’d offer eight hundred kinds of Tylenol and recommend a good doctor.
She wants to be popular, but only because she can have lots of friends who will want to learn things and talk all of the time. Sometimes she gets lonely, but she would never admit that. Instead, she keeps busy with a million after school clubs and volunteering at the local soup kitchen. She also somehow has time for a job (weekends, mostly) at Thriftwat, the local grocery store.
Backhistory: Mara was born in middle June, which makes her a Gemini. If you follow astrology, you’d know that Gemini’s are the incessant talkers of the zodiac. This is definitely true in Mara’s case. Ever since she could babble in baby talk, she has never shut up. Her parents were probably afraid to have another kid, so this may explain why Mara is an only child. Her mother is a librarian and somewhat strict - this may be where Mara gets her anal retentive and curious nature from. Her father is an engineer, born and raised in India, which explains why Mara just spent her junior year of high school in the country. Her father feels it is necessary to expose to her to his culture. All in all, Mara’s parents have her on a tight leash because if they let her go, no doubt she’d fly off to Australia to live with kangaroos. She is not allowed to date and her parents are very strict about her social activities. Read: Mara doesn’t have much of a social life at all.

I sat up straight in my chair, listening to the teacher lecture about the Stuart dynasty, of Great Britain. My hands were folded on my lap. I had already written down everything from the teacher’s notes on the projector, as well as my extra musings and observations.
“Who can name the rulers of Great Britain, starting from 1603?” the teacher asked.
“Ooh!” My hand shot up before anyone else could even blink. “James VI of Scotland and I of England, Charles I of England and Scotland, then a period of the Republican Commonwealth - a Protectorate under Oliver Cromwell and Richard Cromwell known as the English Interregnum. Charles II of England and Scotland, James II of England and VII of Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots and then Queen Anne.”
“….thank you, Mara,” the teacher said, shaking his head as he marked it in his gradebook. I flashed a smile at all of the other students. Most were asleep, but I didn’t care. I had proven my worth. I was on my way to running for class president….maybe even being voted Smartest in the Senior Superaltives! Or maybe I would get asked to sit at the table with all of the popular kids, and I could teach them so many things! It would be wonderful!
Third person sample:
Mara quickly zipped her way down the hallway, her books clutched against her chest. She left the scent of “Yeah, Baby!” perfume behind her - it was the Designer Imposters scent of the ultra-expensive Juicy Couture, which she could not afford. She had just finished up a day of classes and was on her way to choir rehearsal. After choir rehearsal, she had to go bake rolls at the soup kitchen and then go home to start her math equations.
“There goes Motormouth Mara,” one of the students snickered under his breath as she flew past.
Mara heard her name, but thought the student meant to be friendly. She turned around, a bright expression on her face. “Did you want something? Oh! I bet you were going to ask me for coupons, right? This weekend, the store is having sale on toilet paper!” She stuffed a handful of coupons into the surprised students hand. “I can always update you on the sales if you want! I always keep up because I have to know, you know, if someone comes through the line and they ask. It’s important!”
She pointed to the poster on the wall of the school, advertising her bid for Senior Class President. “Vote for Mara!” she said cheerfully, and then took off again.
