Ron Paul vs. the Fed

May 11, 2007 02:23

I am freaking out.  I'm only starting to look into Ron Paul so forgive me if there are glaring issues that I haven't yet come across.  But so far he is making a lot of sense to me.  First, he is clearly not a Zionist - big points there.  Second, and this is what knocked me out of my seat, he is speaking out against the Federal Reserve!  I almost cried.  A presidential candidate from one of the two major parties (Republican of all things!) actually calling out the Fed as the unconstitutional secretive entity it is.  I'm actually concerned for his life because of that.  The Fed - a private central bank (it's as "federal" as Federal Express) - is the key to a lot of what's wrong with our country and government and it's a super touchy subject for those benefitting from it.  Hard to believe?  Let's hear what good ol' Tom Jefferson had to say about such a bank:

"A private central bank issuing the currency is a greater menace to the liberties of the people than a standing army... We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt."

And Andy Jackson, who strangled out an early incarnation of the Fed in his day, said this:

"Is there no danger to our liberty and independence in a bank that in its nature has so little to bind it to our country?  Is there not cause to tremble for the purity of our elections in peace and for the independence of our country in war?  Controlling our currency, receiving our public monies, and holding thousands of our citizens in dependence, it would be more formidable and dangerous than a naval and military power of the enemy."

I don't know about you, but I thought they were pretty good presidents.  They had sharp eyes to see this danger coming and the guts to stand up to it.

Now I kind of doubt Paul will win the GOP nomination, but if not I'm sure he'll run under a "third party" (hate that misleading term).  Incidentally, the Libertarian (real liberals) and Constitution (real conservatives) Parties - two parties whose founding principals couldn't be more opposite - BOTH support abolishing the Federal Reserve.  The only ones who don't oppose the Fed either don't know enough about it or have their hands dipped in it.

Now if Wisconsin Democratic Senator Russ Feingold decided to join Ron Paul as VP... we'd have ourselves one awesome ticket.  And maybe even a chance to have an America again.

Update: If you have 9 minutes and want to know more, watch this video of Ron Paul discussing the Federal Reserve:
