Here is the question I have often poised and have never gotten a satisfactory answer:
"Why aren't pigs farmed for milk in the same way cows, goats and sometimes sheep are? Pigs are more like humans than are those other animals, so one would think pig milk would be nutritionally more suitable for us than cow milk."
I found the question asked here although it was not answered:
http://www.askabiologist.org.uk/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=1974 However I found this response hilarious:
"The organ size and general physiology or pigs is said to be similar to that of a human. So, if one day, it is decided prudent, ethically acceptable, sensible or any other term you choose to use, the humble pig, might be used to produce trans-genic organs for humans. The science isn't there yet, but the rashers of bacon, sausages, and delicious ham contributing to dinner, and the obesity epidemic today, may come from the same animal that saves you from a heart attack tomorrow. "
LOL!
Ok, here is the answer from the biologist, but the answer isn't good enough for my "genius" brother, jesus christ:
"I will get onto that in the moment, but something that is rarely ever considered. Why do we drink milk? Why drink pigs milk when we are human and could drink human milk? (a rhetorical question). The answer to the 'human milk question is simple. Baby humans drink human milk. Naturally speaking, piglets drink pigs milk and calves drink cows' milk. I am still not sure who first sat down and thought it was a good idea to squeeze a cow, and drink what came out..... Milk is not easy to digest and in more and more people they are developing intolerances to lactose. It is a good food stuff for infants, but less so for adults, certainly drinking the milk for the infant of a different species (commonly a cow, but more frequently a goat or sheep) can cause unpleasant allergic reactions to the proteins that these species produce. I think that the main reason that we get milk from the animals we do is ease of access. Cows have been bred to be good producers and can produce it for a long time. I am not so sure that Pigs can do this, or in economically viable quantities. - Neil Gostling"
This is why I'm calling Neil,
"GENIUS OF THE DAY".
There you go jesus, put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.
