Not reposting, because this is floating around enough in people's LJs already... and for matters about the story that I'll discuss in a second.

Would I leave? Yeppers, but not before slugging the teacher. Such government grade bullshit does not belong in a place of education. I'm religious, but evil. >:D

But, do I believe this "true" story? Nopers, unless you can back up this statement with actual proof. The story as presented here seems too vague. "Religion teacher"? There's many types of religious classes. Is this a world religions class? Is this a religion class that you'd find at a church run school? The story doesn't make this clear. The parts "assigned her class an essay on what makes a good Christian" and "The teacher told him that Catholisim is against gay marriage" don't add up. Catholisim may be a sect of Christianity, but it doesn't speak for the whole of Christianity. A Catholic religion class would be more likely an essay on what makes a good Catholic rather than a good Christian.

It worries me that people would be kicked out of classroom, especially if it is a public school. On the other hand, it GREATLY worries me that people are taking this on face value. Because this piece of media is presented almost in the form of the meme, the orginal source will be hard, maybe even impossible to track down. The orginal details may have been changed to increase the "shock value" of the story.

For example, remember that "request a story" meme that went around in the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom a few months ago? Both my sister changed a few details of the meme and nobody questioned them. The version that a lot of people got was the version I tweaked myself, crossing out "drabble" and replacing it with "fic". However, when people got it off me they didn't bother with the html. So, instead of "drabble fic", they got "drabble fic".

Basically, what we have here is the beginning of an online urban legend. Sorry if my attitude kills the party, but this is just the way I look at media (IE, too closely for my own good).

::amused look:: doesn't matter if it's true or not, I know for a fact that something like this has happened at some point, somewhere, so I could really care less if it's anything provable. It's conceptual, not factual that matters.

I've got no problem with a conceptual idea if you present it as a conceptual idea. Don't label it "True Story", even if that's what the original post said. Even if something similar to this happened, that doesn't make this story an absolute truth.

Well, I'll leave the editing of it to someone else. I don't change meme's myself usually
