The dark haired man chalked in the symbols, circling outward from the middle in a careful crawl so that he wouldn’t smudge the previous designs. Every few moments he would bend low, blowing spare dust away so that he could make sure that there were no flaws. He’d been talking to himself since about halfway through the design, but it wasn’t demented mutterings. No, he had been making notes to himself on what went where, and how they should interact with each other.
He’d seen the price that mistakes of this kind had. He couldn’t afford that kind of hindrance. He needed to make sure that everything was perfect. He still had goals that needed to be completed, but this just would not wait. He had his chance he was going to take it. He seemed to feel it was best to keep reminding himself.
“This is my one chance, Hawkeye isn't here and I'm all alone... I can't fail. I won’t get a second chance at this.” Drawing a steadying breath, he closed the line on the outside of the circle, blowing a breath to show an unbroken arc of a line.
He knew this was the weak way, and that it wasn’t his right to do this. He’d asked once, and he’d gotten a resounding no in answer. He wouldn’t be happy with him when he realized what he’d done, but if he did it right, then he didn’t need to worry. Maes would be here again, just like always, and that was enough of a consolation.
Laying hands on the array, Roy closed his eyes and took a deep breath, willing the reaction to start. It went through gold, then turned into a more violent purple. Everything went hazy, and the man only had one determined thought as he lost consciousness.
‘I hope he forgives me.’
