[Ruri peers over at the new girl looking lost and blinks, her expression still deadpan]

Are you lost?

Yeah, I am. I need to find the English class, but, well...it's my first day. I don't suppose you could help the new kid, could you?

English class. I was headed there myself Miss?

Oh, it's Tara! Tara Strong.

(She extends a hand to shake.)

[She bows and shakes her hand]

I'm Ruri. Hoshino Ruri. English is generally on the first floor opposite of the gym.

(Oh, she's Japanese? Tara quickly returns the bow, perhaps a bit too low. But her dad always told her to respect other people's opinions and views.)

It's nice to meet you Ruri. Maybe we could walk to English together?

Certainly. Did you just show up in town?

Yeah, just today. I woke up in a house with a guy who's supposed to be my dad. I've also got a "mom" and a "brother" in there. It's really creepy, because they're always smiling. It's like something out of a movie.

Yes, there's just one real person in my house too, its been that way for almost a year. I still haven't really gotten used to it, but I've learned how to get them into the attic easy enough.

...is it normal in this town to lock the not-real people in the basement or the attic? Because that's what the guy I live with does.

Depends on the person. I don't want to hurt them, but, I'm tired of being told that if I don't smile more I'll never catch a husband. Its rather stupid.

They do that? But that's totally...I mean, we're not living in the-

-oh. Yeah, that's right. We're stuck in the 50s.

(She sighs and follows after Ruri.)

I hope that the "mom" in my house won't start on me. I get lectured enough back home by my dad already.

It was kind of nice having a mother that cared at first but... I think I'd rather have a real person instead of another doll.

[She shakes her head a bit]

Yeah, you're right. Is it true then, that they're not real at all? The guy I was living with threw one of them across the room, and he just carried on as if everything was normal.

I really don't know. In some ways they're a warning, what happens to us when we stop fighting or actually I'm told go home but as for what they really are. I can't say. I'm sorry.

So, if you get turned into one of them, you get to go home? How does that work? Are there any bad side effects?
