Hold My Hand

“Hold my hand I will protect you.” A voice behind her said. She was sitting outside in the dark looking up at the stars. She loved the stars, and the moon. She turned around and looked up at the person standing behind her. She smiled. “I will protect you from ever getting hurt ever again.”

She stood up and looked closer at the un-familiar face speaking to her. She took his hand and he helped her up.

“Who are you?” she asked.

“You wouldn’t leave me alone, you were stupid. You should know better then to fall for a person like me. Look at me. I am hideous.” He reached out and touched her hair. He brought a piece close to his face and smelled it. “And you… you’re beautiful. Why would you want a guy like me?” He let go of her hair and glanced at her, then at the river behind her.

She looked at him in misunderstanding. She looked at the stars, every one of them was different, and all were beautiful, like people. She did not know what to say to him. She was just starting to remember the story. She remembered a boy, sitting alone in the dark. She remembered her pain and the cheating. She watched the dark figure in front of her pull something shiny out of hit coat. She watched him click it and she suddenly knew what it was. “Tonight is the perfect night to die.”

Her entire being was shaking, and yet her voice was calm. “How do you know?”

“Look at those stars.” He pointed the gun into the moon and shot it off. “Look at how fucking ugly they are.”

She stopped shaking and looked into his eyes; they were starred and freckled like the night sky. He was not a bad person, at least not on the inside.

“I'm going to kill you once and for all.” He lowered the gun toward her head. “And when I say this is for everyone I know, I'm being brutally honest.” He frowned and took a step toward her and she knew she was trapped between him and the river. There was no way she could live. She looked up at the moon and felt the warmth, the love. She heard the birds stir in the trees and she heard the wind rustle the leaves. “I'm sorry.”

“How many times have I told you sorry doesn’t change anything?” She laughed, and smiled. Nothing could hurt her anymore.

He shot her. Everything was over. She fell into the river. She would be cold for the last time.

The Red Light

The tears that streamed down her face as she sped down the road in her car, stung like the pain she was feeling. It was raining so hard she could barely see through the window. Why didn’t she get her windshield wipers fixed when her dad told her to? Lights spun by her window... were they supposed to be on the right side of her car or her left? She could not think. She shouldn’t be on the road. She did not even know if she was driving or not. She sensed someone else was in the car but she didn’t feel like moving to look. She suddenly saw a red light fly over her head... she saw it too late...
