30 day challenge-Day 13: Lost in Time, Chapter 6

Malachi had a decent, if uneventful life. He went to school, surfed on weekend and did his job. He didn’t do that well with girls, but he wasn’t really interested in the ones around him. He had high standards and his job consumed him. Things had been good this time for some strange reason, but he wasn’t complaining. He had heard from Grace and Rianna lately, but if they didn’t need his help, he was going to relax. He was startled when he heard a noise. He heard a knock on the door and when he opened it, he got slapped, hard.

“You petty, vindictive son of a bitch!” Kalika said angrily. “Nice to see you, too.” Malachi thought she was dead, but it figured that Lilith imprisoned her. She couldn’t kill her favorite child’s child, even if she was being insolent. “Oh, fuck you. You all gave me so many lectures, yet you dumped poor Lex into a world that was closed. For what? Thank god he found Rianna,” Kalika said angrily.

“Honestly…that was childish and unprofessional,” Uriel said as he scolded him. “Am I in that much trouble?” It had to have been severe if Uriel had been sent to speak with him. “That remains to be seen, but you could have warped reality by quite a bit, things are rapidly changing in the past and most of us could be dead at any given moment,” Uriel said as he crossed his arms.

“I just wanted to teach him a lesson. I’ve never liked him,he’s a status-seeker and he used both Kalika and Alex,” Malachi said. “He’s changed,it should have been obvious and he’s more like Pryce now. He loves me, you scared him and he could have been killed. If he hadn’t,why would I leave him in charge to help Marcus and Lara in case of emergency?” Kalika said as she glared at him.

“Wait, wait…when did you do that? They’ve been fighting for years,” Malachi said. He kept up with politics and things were ugly on the main base. “We just left 2001,” Adam said. He severely disliked Uriel’s brother and he was a temperamental jackass. “Why is he here? I know he’s your bodyguard, but he’s not smart enough to handle this,” Malachi said.

“Bold, meet Malachi. Malachi, meet Bold. He was resurrected as part of my father and grandfather’s plot to take over the world. My father isn’t dead yet, but my husband killed the others. Bold wanted to come and to be honest, it’s a good idea. Tristan will have never been born if grandma and I were never born. My brother isn’t going to remember me because we’ll both evaporate. I’m protective now,” Kalika said.

Malachi’s eyes widened in horror; it was impossible. “I never asked to be born. I love my parents and Varuk said he wouldn’t kill them. He violated my sister, made her have his children and was inappropriate with the others several times. I can’t imagine my life without the one who was my twin and I don’t know who’s worse-My nephew and Trevor or that filthy lower being,” Adam said.

“You did die, didn’t you?” Malachi was devastated and couldn’t believe it had happened again. She was a doll, even thought she wanted to die. “I did, but I didn’t want Grace and Rianna to tell you. I sent them after Azra since he needs to be named, but it was too soon. Things are rapidly de-evolving and the darkness is coming, so everyone split up and abandoned the school. Don’t worry…it was peaceful. Pryce shut me off like last time,” Kalika said with a sigh.

“DAMNIT!” Malachi was furious and it was unnatural to create dolls and bring Kalika and Bold back to life. “I agree and desecrating the bodies was hideous. Agares knew, even if Lilith didn’t. He’s the one who wants to make sure that most of us aren’t born. If it’s not his aim, then he grossly underestimated what making sure that Kalika and our stepmother are never born. Are you proud of yourself? That poor boy has to face Agares, Agatha, Lilith, Gregory and Alexander, even if he’s only 13. How exactly are they all supposed to do that? Agares is warping reality and not one, but two people who aren’t supposed to exist are there. He’s keeping Kalika and Marcus apart and could have made Lex behave himself. Then again, I doubt he liked the boy,” Uriel said.

“He’s bad for her. I wasn’t being jealous,” Malachi said quietly. “That’s not up to you, you’re supposed to be scientific and if Amara gets killed, what are you going to do? She’s been distant, she thinks Lara and I lie to her and that she’s useless. Maybe I meddled by picking her for you, but admit it-She was the best thing that ever happened to you. She never found a spouse either and she didn’t have to be around us,” Kalika said.

“She’s not you and I hated having to lie to her. I never have to lie to you,” Malachi said with a sigh. He loved his wife and children, but Amara’s background and his job made telling her what he did for a living too difficult. She wasn’t useless, but the Elders would kill him if he said anything. “So? I have to lie to my loved ones all the time, even if I don’t like it. We’ll both leave you if my uncle wins. He’s a jackass and if he wanted me dead, why did he insist that Lara and I were better off living with them? My meddling was calculated,” Kalika pointed out.

“I faced him before. I’m not his favorite person,” Malachi said. “No one’s asking you to join us. In fact, I think it’s a terrible idea. I am going to ask you to fix your mistake concerning the boy. Things are frail right now, Ahriman’s power is growing strong, he’ll have a host soon and Azra is in hiding. Make yourself useful,” Uriel said sternly.

“I can do one better. I’ll make sure that Grace, Rianna and I never challenged Agares or plotted against Mordachi. I know it changes things, but Lilith and the others despise me for a reason and Ethan and Hail hate me,” Malachi said. “No,it’s okay. He won’t be my cousin and we’ll be soulmates either way. Besides…Hail is on the island with Sage and Ethan. She and Sage finally married and it was beautiful. Please, do whatever you can on your end. I do think there’s some logic to what my uncle is doing, but it’s going to cost him as well. It’s cruel to keep grandmere and grandpere apart. Even if she was just being grandmere, he was the only man she ever truly loved. She was hysterical when he died and she told me to beg him and my mother to forgive her when she let me be with them in the underworld,” Kalika pointed out.

“Ugh…I shouldn’t care if that woman is happy. He’ll never die if he doesn’t meet her,” Malachi grumbled. “He’ll also never meet my family. Even if he does, they won’t be in a place to explore the surface and things will be backward. My mother isn’t a monster and she deserves to be born. Who even knows if Abina will ever be a real person? I don’t know if Mariette never getting her wish is a good or bad thing, but it affects the Bennett bloodline by a lot,” Kalika pleaded.

“Fine, but only for your sake. That woman is horrible, she gave Vicky to your stupid husband and she murdered you in cold blood. I’m supposed to forgive her for that? God…she chose him for you, didn’t she?” Malachi demanded. He was nauseated and of all people, promising Kalika to the source of all evil and darkness was the worst punishment he could think of. “It’s complicated, but he did ask for my hand,” Kalika said with a sigh.

“I’m on it. I’ve been keeping up, but I had faith in my sister and Rianna. We had to step up after you died and she did her best to focus. You’re right and something’s been wrong, but none of us knew what to do,” Malachi said as he got up. He wanted to say goodbye to his children first, but it was obvious that something needed to be done. “If you need help, ask Lara. I gave her Kalika’s power and giving it to Norman wound up being a bad idea,” Uriel suggested.

“Oh. I wouldn’t have expected that, but I will. I think you should talk to Tristan and Mordachi, though. Tristan may die and Mordachi is about to lose his children and grandchildren,” Malachi pointed out. “Come on. You shouldn’t come with us to fight Agares, but you need to fix your mess with Lex first,” Kalika said.
