To start off with, the wedding. Two weeks ago I was coming home from a friend’s wedding. The weekend was spent with a lot of driving. Back to my hometown to meet up with my friends, and then on to Portland for the wedding itself. The wedding took place at Voodoo doughnuts, which was amazing and so much fun. The bride dressed as an Indian Princess, and the groom as an Explorer. I took a few pictures, was very happy when I got the money shot. My lesson in this was using my external flash. The recycle time simply wasn’t there. It was a major help, and I loved having it there... but it is something that I need to work with more. I still managed to get some good shots though. After the ceremony there was donuts, coffee, and the purchasing of more donuts and a sweatshirt. At the hotel we awaited the caterers to bring indian food, w00t curry! And an amazingly decorated cake made by one of my friends.
The next morning took us to Powell’s Bookstore. 4 levels of books... major win! Sadly I was not able to make it to camera world, and the other two places I’d gone earlier in the weekend did not have my camera in stock. However Powell’s had such an amazing selection of books that it kind of made up for not being able to find my camera. Best of all I came home with an Encyclopedia of Mythology, something I could not find in my current area bookstores.
The following weekend came and I worked on pictures and thought more about ordering my camera. Last Monday, I finally did. The Canon 60D. The camera came on Wednesday before work. I was thinking the battery would have a partial charge as is customary. My hope being I would be able to turn the camera on long enough to take a picture. The battery was sadly completely dead and was placed on the charger while I went to my shift. After work I put the battery pack in long enough to take a picture, but then immediately had to go to bed due to a doctor’s appointment the next morning. Took my boyfriend to see the chiropractor. Afterwards we were so tired a nap before work was necessary. Friday was the first morning that I was able to really play with the camera. It’s gone with me everywhere except work.
Saturday was a trip to the city with my parents. Before leaving we took my car to Les Schwab to get the snow tires changed out. Left the key with them and pre-paid not knowing what time we would return... which happened to be 15 minutes after their closing time. We found the snow tires were still on the car. A phone call was actually answered though and after emphasizing that I needed my car back the worker offered to change the tires that night. The key had been locked in the car which meant I had to run down to unlock the car. I was super irritated and ready to be done. The worker told me my car needed new tires soon, and to come see him, he would make me a deal and reimburse me for my changeover. At this point he was trying to win back a customer, but I’m not convinced. And no, I did not get the promise of reimbursement in writing.
Anyway, that’s what’s been going on in the past two weeks. Next post, I’ll have new art!
