Novels and Gardens

I'm going to post, although I doubt anyone is reading.  I guess I'm okay with that.

I've been working on the novel again.  I think the characters are becoming more solid than they have been in years.  Yes, I've had these people in my head for years, and I'm ready to get them out.  It's risky.  Trying to write the novel that's been rattling around forever means that I'm attached, means that I might be inclined to direct them.  But I'm trying very hard to keep myself out of the mix (well, besides the fact that the MC is an amalgam of other women I know...and me).  So far, the plotting has fallen together, so I feel a steady footing on the overall flow.  It's mostly a matter of getting the scenes down on paper now.  A reference map of the characters will help, too; probably going to write this up today.

Anyhow, that's progress.  I'm looking for a critique group to join, but not heavily yet.  I'll definitely need it by June or July.  That's when the first draft should be done.

K and I worked on the yard yesterday, pruning out the junk trees.  And we had a picnic and listened to our white-people music.  It was fun.  I went back out today and worked on trimming the trees down to size, either for recycling, or preferably to build ourselves a raised garden bed (like this).  Hoping to accomplish it during the week.

Now, I'm off to tidy up my room and wash the dishes.  So much to do.
