More stuff about CON (and clothes)

I bumped this, since I'm really hoping for some advice.  Bear with me.  Thanks.

=====

Well, it looks like, thanks to the lovely sariel_t, I've got my foot in the door at CONvergence.  This is exciting and daunting, since of course this is going to be my first time.

We're about three months out from the event, which is not a huge amount of time to prepare.  I've looked at hotels, and am considering just knuckling under and taking a room at the Sofitel by myself, but it is damned expensive.  The Sheraton (Starwood) is already booked solid and probably has been for a while.  Other hotels are not great options for me, since I don't drive...I need to be able to get to my room!  If I were going with someone else and sharing a room, presumably they'd have a car, or at least it'd be an adventure.  But so far, I'm on my own.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation?  What would you recommend?  Should I grab up the Sofitel room while I still can, or is there a way to find (a) partner/s-in-crime for this?  Or...is it likely I can find someone to crash with, someone who already has a room at the Sheraton?  If I could get a room there, I'd just take it.  Having to walk between hotels is going to be a bit annoying (but hey, all for the experience, right?).  I just really don't know what to do about this situation.  Please help!

In related news, I've started work on the chemise for my costume.  I spent a lot of hours on the cutting, and still have a few pieces left to cut out.  It's a slow road (since I am not used to sewing garments, and this is my first time with patterns).  Patterns are a pain in the arse!  Cutting tissue paper...takes for-ev-er.  But, I think I'm doing everything right, so far.  I'm definitely excited to move on to the actual sewing.  Should be fun!

That's about it for now.  Back to the sewing table!
