Then why don't all bass players sound as good as (or close to) Vic Wooten? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm asking fer serious

You can make a career being a very mediocre bassist if you get in the right group, and bassists being in high demand, that's much easier than for vocalists, drummers, and guitarists.

I get what you're saying. Yeah.

It's kind of like big fish in a little pond. If you're auditioning to All-State on trombone you have a MUCH higher chance of getting in than if you are auditioning on flute. It's numbers. I get it, I get it.

Yep! And also the fact that most people don't pay enough attention to bass in rock music for it to matter. Gospel and funk it matters a lot more.
