Late Fall

She stood straight, her bangs covered the top of forehead, sticking against her skin, soaked in sweat. She watched.
I can't remember her name. There is this blank stare on her face as though she is expecting me to say something. I feel like I'm supposed to say something. Her glare is wanting, starving for words. I am racking my brain for something to say.

Blankblankblankblank.

"Okay then."

She turned to leave.

"I love you!"
I didn't.
That was the only thing I could think to say.
The only thing I thought she might want to here.
She kept walking.

Nothing came to mind. I couldn't thing of the right thing to say or do. She left. This was my fault. Was I not clever enough? I should have been funny. Girls like it when I'm funny...

She never came back. I still don't know the right thing to say.
Maybe it's not what I say, Maybe she isn't the right one. No that can't be it. It's definitely me.
