So, I have a question... purely conversation, this.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever been arrested for? Or got into trouble for, for those of you who have avoided law enforcement.

[Gunn is posting this question from a nice, nondescript table on Deck 8, with three beers on the table in front of him. One is empty, one is half-full, and the other ( Read more... )

Yeah that's my question, too.

I didn't do anything.

[That you know about and that he is able to legally divulge in the states.]

... Of course not. Which would be why you asked.

[Bryn snorts.]

Riiight. Haven't done anything illegal at all?

[He snorts as well.]

Depends on the state. I did go it on my own for a while, looking for you.

[Oddly, it's not bitter. It's just a statement of fact.]

[Strangely enough, Bryn finds herself okay discussing this.]

I'm surprised you had any leads to follow considering I've been here since...[She does some quick calculations.] Since you turned eighteen, technically. I think.

Where did you end up looking anyway?

It wasn't really a lead so much as a rumor. Got me thinking, though, and I decided to investigate.

And... yeah, I was 27 when I started looking for you.

Started in Florida, in a smuggling ring. Branched out from there... got the information from a client I was representing.

It couldn't have been very good information if I've been here since I was twenty-two...

...you waited an awful long time to find me, Gunn.

[She sounded a little awkward with her last statement. There is a bit of a question in her tone. If he cared so much, why did he wait so long to go looking for her?]

Wasn't very good if I was still looking after a year, either.

[There's a bit of a pause, him picking his words as carefully as he can with a beer and a half in him.]

There was.. the court stuff, and finding a home when I was basically disowned. I thought maybe you'd show up later, after they were in jail.

Then college started and I thought I could just keep updating the missing-persons' list... wasn't sure where you'd gotten to. It didn't really cross my mind to look myself until I ran into that guy...

[Well that...all makes sense. At least enough that she doesn't feel like she might have been some sort of afterthought on his part.]

What guy?

Guy mentioned working with someone who looked like you, someone who operated with a smuggling ring. He didn't know about you, but it sounded a lot like you...

Turned out it wasn't, but that's when I started thinking about looking for you myself. I had the time and money, after all.

Wasn't exactly legal, though.

People don't always stay on the right side of the line when family is involved, I guess.

[She can appreciate that he was willing to go to whatever measures he needed to find her. It softens her heart just a bit more toward him.]

Who knows, maybe your searching put you in the right place and the right time to be picked up by Redd.

Family... means a lot more to me than it did when I was younger. Something I learned over the course of my years, I guess.

[He snorts lightly, but it doesn't sound derisive; at least not too much.]

It's possible. That's one thing I can thank him for, at least.

Bryn: *Not jealous of other-family what are you talking about?* brynkitten July 4 2010, 09:05:56 UTC
[Bryn pauses a moment, because a sudden thought occurs to her. His talk of family meaning more...and perhaps him only having one thing to thank Redd for makes her wonder...

Most passengers aren't happy to be on board. Gunn was glad to have found her however it was stupid for her to assume that her presence alone made him okay with the circumstances.]

You have your other family back home. You miss them don't you.

[She says this more as a statement than a question.]

They taught you the value of family, I imagine.

[Gunn pauses. To be honest he hadn't thought of his mother and father - the second set - in a while. He'd been avoiding it, in a sense. When he speaks, his tone is a bit sad.]

I did, but I hadn't contacted them in a while before I got here. My searching... like I said, it wasn't exactly legal. I didn't want to involve them, get them into trouble.

They were part of it. Experience was the other half. [Losing her, for example.]
