Neglect

His blue eyes wavered, different from the time before. His blue eyes wavered, to the moon he stared. He wondered why and for once had a reason to fight the plague that attacked his heart for half a decade.

His eyes wavered, the soft sand beneath his shoes and the sound of the ocean.

His eyes wavered, he could only stare at the moonlit pearl in the sky.

His eyes wavered, he flipped his cell phone and looked at the time, he was ready to give up but he pushed himself five more minutes.

His eyes wavered, he sat down on a log and stared at the ocean… “Not coming.” He whispered to himself, the one he had asked to meet him was ten minutes late. “I'm sorry.” His voice nibbled on the wind.

His eyes wavered, he looked up at the moon and felt the sadness reel in and take him down. Away from the moonlit pearl… The next thing he knew the pearl had become blurred. He felt the tears flow down his cheeks and he could not help but cry. He stopped a bit when he heard footsteps and he felt his heart skip a beat.

“C’mon Soar… let’s go home.” His brother pleaded, “Riku’s not coming…”

“He will.” Sora held onto his knees.

“Sora…”

“Just… let me be…” The brunet felt his tears return. Life was too cruel; he had finally been taken out of a shell he was forced in five years ago to find rejection lying in his wake.

“Okay but… don’t stay out too late.”

The brunet heard the sound of crunches as the blond walked away, the soft sound of sand was all that was left.

His eyes wavered, was this fair? Leaving one so hollow to fend for himself? The noise returned and he didn’t turn around.

The silver haired teen stared, he didn’t know what to say so he only stared at the brunet’s back. They stayed like that for almost ten minutes until Riku walked over and sat next to the brunet. “Hey.”

“You’re late…” He whispered.

“Yeah, looks like I am. I wasn’t going to come but… whatever you have to say you might as well say it.”

“Your right.” The younger responded with an emotionless voice, “When I kissed you it was… special…”

“Look, if you’re trying to be friends with me just so you can hurt me again… I don’t want anything to do with you.”

The brunet shook his head, “I don’t know… I don’t know why you stuck by me… Even when I insulted you, when I hit you… when I hurt you.” Sora began wiping the tears away from his eyes, “But maybe I can understand now… when you can’t get someone off your mind, when you can’t stop thinking about him… whenever you hear his name, your heart just starts pounding so loud you wonder if anyone else in the room can heart it…”

“Sora…?” Riku froze.

“When I am blinded, but all I can see is you… And I know that’s enough, and you can help me get out of this… I know for a fact, you love me…”

“Sora, listen I-”

“You said I can say what I want right?” The younger interjected.

“Well yeah but-”

“This is important so let me say it…” The brunet’s eyes wavered, he stared at the ground.

“Okay…”

“I know you love me… and I don’t know what this feeling is but… I think, I think for once in my life I really love someone, and I know you love me back.” Sora had tears in his eyes, “You can pretend you don’t love me but… When you kissed me… Couldn’t you feel it?”

Riku looked away for a second and sighed, “I don’t know how long I can do this… you tell me you love me one day and the next I am just a pawn in your game…”

“No!” He shouted, he threw his arms around the older and squeezed, “Give me one more chance.”

“I don’t know… if I can do that Sora… I'm sorry…”

In a split second his whole world shattered, he slipped away from the one he loved and looked the other way.

“Sora look I’m sorry-”

His eyes wavered; they couldn’t hear the excuses coming out of Sora’s mouth. Why? Why him? Why did everybody have to ignore him?

Roxas laughed, he had his skateboard in his hand and their laughter filled the streets, the hot sun bathed them. To his right Axel was also talking, he was telling them a story about how he was being interrogated by some random shop clerk.

Right behind them Riku laughed as well, a smile was on his face.

To the right of the silver haired teen was a brunet, quiet and shy but always smiling. He was younger than all of them by two years but enjoyed hanging out with his brother’s friend for a change.

“What happened to your ice cream Sora?” The blond asked, not that he really cared for something as small as ice cream.

“I ate it.” He said shyly.

“Wow, you really do like sea-salt ice cream.” Axel laughed, the blond laughed with him.

“You want mine?” Riku offered, “I don’t really like sea-salt.”

“You sure?” The younger one blushed.

“Sure, take it.”

A smile formed on the brunet’s lips.

Sora remembered a random moment and sighed; Riku had always looked out for him, and always made sure he smiled. He hadn’t realised how much he loved and needed the silver haired teen… He watched said teen walk away from him and his heart…

His eyes wavered, as the darkness once again made him, to this life hollow… and all he could feel was the neglect…
