This is great!

I just changed my lj set language to German! This is super exciting! Let me tell you about more exciting events today:
-to my surprise my roommate ate all the cookies
-the weather service reported high winds (60mph) in the area today. that would explain the sirens
-there was something else exciting but i can't remember what it was. perhaps it was so exciting that my body selectively deleted it from my memory so that my parasympathetic nervous system wouldn't freak out.

Anyway, more backdated updates.
After Tues, Wed and Thurs which i spent mostly in school and grandma spent mostly cleaning my entire apartment and shooping, we departed early on Friday morning for Switzerland. It took us about 41/2 hours to reach Basel (just over the German/Swiss border) and then 50 minutes to reach Sursee. We got there early so that we could poke around town on our own a bit before Joe picked us up. (Joe is yet another person who is complicated to explain my relation to. Suffice it to say that he's related by marriage to my distant Swiss ancestor but mostly he's just a good friend). Anyway, from there we went another friend's house for dinner. Then we got to see babies which was about the most exciting part of the whole trip. (You think i'm squirrel-deprived? I'm seriously baby-deprived!) And that was Friday.

Grandma on the train to Basel. I taught her how to read one paragraph from the German travel brochure. The proud student

Me in the Basel Bahnhof (train station)

This Ernie said ridiculous things in German!

Classy stroller for babies

I'm holding Lorena (she's always awake) and their mom Monika is holding Amanda (she's always sleeping)

that's our host Hermann with his granddaughter. he and his wife gave me some amazing blueberry jam, hand-picked from Mount Pilatus wild blueberry homemade jam. i can't eat it; i have to wait for a special occasion!

there's Lorena and her daddy. he's a baker; which comes into play later in the story

i love the "i'm still in utero" look that new babies have
