Ok, I just watched Gurren Lagann 19 this morning. OMG YES.
Ok, first I must talk about my darling Nia. She's pretty much her same, cute self in the beginning of episode 17.
Simon: Will you marry me?
Nia: *bluch blush* ........ Nope!
And it turns out that she just doesn't understand that Simon doesn't mean for them to become one person literally... Really, don't use that with her Simon.
Rossui is HOT working on secrit stuff. Oooo. That's revealed in episode 18. But, for now, the big crisis happens with the whole Anti-Spirals showing up and the moon beginning to fall and everything.
AHHH, NIA! She's become an Anti-Spiral. Although, I must admit, her Anti-Spiral costume that she gets in episode 18 is rather hot. It's like a complete bodysuit.
Ok, skipping to episode 18 now because I'm already talking about it. Nia meets up with Simon again to explain herself. She seems to have unlimited access to Kamina City's broadcast system, so everything she does she broadcasts to the city's citizens. Widespread panic, yes?
Anyway, I find it interesting that the next two times she appears it is directly in front of Simon. Also, in episode 19 we get a totally not subtle shot of her hand with the ring Simon gave her still on it. Meaning that Nia is still in there. This gives me hope that she can come back, even after she said, "Once I become an Anti-Spiral, I cannot go back to being human."
What I wonder is how she ended up with Anti-Spiral genes in her body. The Spiral King was the one who created her. Could he have added them himself? Or are all Beastmen "Anti-Spirals?" The Spiral King had said that the beastmen were to inferior to humans because they could not harness the power of the Spiral. So, in that way, beastmen could be concidered "Anti-Spirals" merely because they are NOT Spirals. So, that could be why Nia is being used. But then why does she say she can't go back to being "human?" Is that just because of translation?
Oh, but Simon got arrested. OH NOES. People may hate Rossui for what he's doing, but I find the characterization flawless. He accusing Simon of not growing up, however, Rossui too is still holding to the beliefs of his village community, as Simon points out. It is all very interesting. For the moment, though, the people of Kamina City seem to be ralling behind him. I have no doubt things will change at some point.
Oh, and Viral appears again! He was in episode 17 too, but he and Simon meet back up in the prison. The preview for next episode shows them fighting, so I think Simon might get some training? I bet they'll break out together.
Ok, that went on for way longer than I expected. I hope Yoko shows up again soon. Now that Nia is an adult I have an insane craving for Yoko/Nia. Or Nia/Yoko, if you take [spoiler, spoiler!]!Nia into account. >D
Ok, I should go pack now.
