chapter 15like it here? As in you chose to be here…" Billy piped up, from the back of the group.
"Better then anywhere else they’ve sent me, and much better then home. Maybe I’ll leave one day, but for now this is home." Matt responded.
The tour went on, they went past the cafeteria. Where they were told about the rule of no plastic knives, and that all forks and spoons were counted after every meal. Then on to the main room, it had a few chairs and a table, and stuff to draw with. Here they heard about the rules on sharpened pencils, and scissors and how you can only use those things after you reached a level. The whole place was run in levels; certain privileges came with every level you went up. Then it was to the TV room, a couch, a big TV, various movies and DVD’s. That room was another privilege as it seemed because only certain people were allowed in.
The group therapy rooms were empty except the chairs that circled the perimeter. Also the personal therapy rooms were just like the therapist of the past, light colored wall paintings of oceans or sailboats on the wall, desks and chairs made of leather, and a person who looks as cold as the room behind the desk.
They made their way back to the front doors. Matt punched in a code into a keypad on the wall and the sliding doors opened, into an outer sitting room. "Who has that code? The one to get out." Joel asked, as the doors closed behind them.
"Only the staff, the patients can’t get out without an advisor, and we have bed checks every night and head counts in the mornings. No one can get out without being noticed."
"Good" Joel responded, "Benji is a bit of an escape artist as it seems." He snapped, throwing Billy an evil glare.
"That wasn’t my fault and you know it!" Billy snapped back trying to defend himself against the angry twin. "How was I supposed to know he was going to go try to beat the shit out of you?"
"When you see someone restrained to a bed do you think it’s for nothing?" Joel yelled.
Tony jumped in between them… "Calm the fuck down. Both of you! Billy didn’t mean to get you hurt; he just wanted to help Benji. Remember helping Benji? It’s kind of why we’re here."
A few hours later the quartet was on their way back to Benji’s room. Tony told everyone to wait outside that he wanted to talk to Benji alone. He thought it was only fair that he was the one to tell him about South Oaks, he knew Benji would be crushed by the decision, and Tony wasn’t too happy about it himself. He let himself into the room, eyes meeting Benji’s which were directed towards the door since he heard the talking outside of it.
"So am I going away? Are you just going to let him get me locked up?" Benji asked, trying to avoid letting the tears fall that were gathering at the base of his eyes.
"It wasn’t only up to him." Tony whispered back.
"So you agree with them? You want me to go there too?" This time a single tear dropped from his eyes trailing down his face.
"No the only thing I want is to take you home, and shower you with kisses, and paint you with love. I want to hold you close and never let go, block out everything they say and just run away with you Benji. That’s what I want. But I’ll never get to do that if you don’t go, they’ll never let us live if they don’t think you’re better. You’re perfect to me; you just have to make them see it too." Tony answered.
He walked over the edge of the bed, wiping away Benji’s tears with his fingers, and it was then that Benji noticed that Tony was crying too. It was then that Benji realized he wasn’t alone in this, even if Tony didn’t completely understand what was going on he would be there, forever.
"I’ll go." Benji whispered, "I won’t like it, but I’ll go, I’ll go for you. But you have to promise that you’ll wait for me, that you’ll believe in me."
"I already believe in you, and I always will." Tony said back lovingly. "Don’t worry its not that bad there, and we worked it out so you can room with this guy named Matt. He’s a really cool guy, he works there sort of… he reminded me of you, I am sure you’ll like him. And once I am allowed to I promise I’ll be there every chance I get to visit you, and I’ll write everyday."
Tony sat on the edge of the bed, leaning in and running his hand through Benji’s hair, they turned around when the door clicked open and Billy and Paul walked in. "What did we say about sex in the hospital?" Billy joked, when he saw how the two of them were sitting.
"I don’t think it would work that well." Benji laughed and pulled at his wrists, "These things would kind of get in the way."
"Hey, I can pull it off, I am just that talented." Tony retorted.
"Well let’s not test that theory, I don’t think the staff would appreciate that." Paul chimed in.
Tony and Benji looked at each other and smiled. "We would let them watch!" They said, almost at the same time.
The "argument" went on like that for a while and all 4 guys were laughing by the time Joel walked. As soon as he did however, all talking came to a halt. The tension in the air between Benji and Joel could be cut with a knife. And the look Billy was shooting at Joel? Let’s just say if looks could kill Joel would be dead five times over. Billy had been thinking over what Benji had said, and was starting to put the pieces together, but he just couldn’t make out the picture yet.
