Dear Yuletide Author
Hello! Thank you very much for writing for me. Things I am fond of include queers in times/places when it is not safe to be queer, the mechanics of universes, and couples who murder together.
1. Fandom: Equilibrium
Characters: None, or Errol Partridge if any
Request: I honestly just want an exploration of the world of this movie. It doesn’t seem to work very well. I’m interested in what made Partridge decide to go off intervals, and how he evaded detection long enough to collect the sense-paraphernalia he did. I want to know about people for whom Prozium doesn’t work, people with naturally flat affect who don’t need Prozium, people who need Prozium to function and will be SOL in the post-canon world, etc.
(Also, in a world where spousal relationships seem fairly arbitrary, what happens to people who are attracted to members of their own gender? Prozium may take away romance, but aesthetic attraction is still a factor, surely.)
The universe of the film is too binary to make sense, and I am interested in the outliers.
This is the only item on this list that’s mostly about worldbuilding, and if Partridge doesn’t interest you I’m completely fine with Preston being the focus as long as some of the points are addressed.
2. Fandom: Macdonald Hall - Gordon Korman
Characters: Boots O'Neal/Bruno Walton, Cathy Burton/Diane Grant
Request: Though I’ve paired them off in my little Characters section, I’d be just as OK with gen for this fandom. Straight couples not so much, but Bruno/Boots and/or Cathy/Diane or gen are all awesome options!
I’d love it if you could include a Bruno scheme, even in the background, or possibly a scheme that Cathy and Diane hatch that the boys help with. Schemes are, after all, the lifeblood of this series! …he said, as if it were still running. You know what I mean! But even without a scheme, the relationship between these pairs has always interested me. To wit: how well they get along despite being totally at odds a great deal of the time.
Boots being asexual (but not aromantic) is a personal interest of mine, as is Boots realising that the reason he goes along with all Bruno’s antics is that he loves him. The fact that most of Bruno’s schemes seem to start as a way to help Boots accomplish something is also relevant to my interests.
The books give more detail on Bruno and Boots, so I have more ideas about them, but if you have ideas about Cathy and Diane I’d love to read them, because they’re kind of underserved in the fandom.
3. Fandom: Anastasia
Characters: Dimitri and Vlad
Request: There is zero Dimitri/Vlad on AO3, and that horrifies me. That said, if you don’t want to write them romantically involved, bantering and/or bickering would be nice. Maybe the story of how they started working together, possibly including Vlad’s past with Sophie and how the paramour of the Dowager Empress’ confidante became a con man.
But please, if you don’t mind, I would really like fic of Dimitri and Vlad in a romantic relationship. Even if it’s in the background of the everything-else, I would really like that.
4. Fandom: Reservoir Dogs
Characters: Mr. Blonde, Nice Guy Eddie
Request: Hm hm hm, this one is complicated. I want them romantically involved, but romance doesn’t really have much to do with their relationship, though Eddie might think it does. I'm really fond of Blonde being just this side of obviously unhinged and Eddie maybe liking that. It's actually important to me that Blonde is a sociopath, not a psychopath. And its always nice if Joe is concerned about their relationship without necessarily knowing what’s going on. Maybe Eddie helps Blonde on his solo schemes that mostly consist of murder. Maybe Blonde builds Eddie up in his father’s eyes and is the reason Eddie is considered a viable partner despite being such a doofus.
Maybe maybe maybe. Anything goes, as long as it is not the healthiest relationship. :-P
Now for likes and dislikes, I suppose.
Likes:
- I like when couples kill people together. I like when individual people use their intellects to become nearly invincible serial killers by making their crimes look like they were committed by others. Less room for this in the canon of fandoms that aren’t Reservoir Dogs (haha intellect haha), but AUs are always welcome!
- Bondage and knifeplay are specific kinks I have and always appreciate when they’re in stories. Obviously the line between knifeplay and flat-out self-injury (occasionally by proxy) is a difficult one to balance, but if that can be done I absolutely love it. Handcuffs or a simple rope around the wrists can also suffice when full-on bondage is inefficient.
- Ownership/collaring is good if there’s a discussion of what this means for the relationship etc. I like discussions of kink and how the characters react to it.
- Really, I just like discussions. Sometimes to the exclusion of other things. Discussions about kink, poly, a heist, the direction a relationship is taking, just about anything. Characters talking at each other about things that affect all of them.
- If one or more of the characters is trans* (especially if one of the characters is Mr. Blonde), I will love you forever. As long as the portrayal isn't transphobic, of course.
- And obviously, if none of this is applicable to the ideas you have, that’s fine too. They’re just extra things that I enjoy in fic.
Dislikes:
- I really don’t like unhappy endings. It’s sort of a given for some fandoms, but unless dictated in canon I don’t like when people don’t end up together, or die, or are betrayed. Especially not betrayed.
- The use of mind-altering substances that can remove or confuse consent (in fact, anything that removes or confuses consent) is not something I would like to read. Full aware consent at all times is something I’m big on. This could vary if you’re writing Blonde/Eddie, because there’s the potential for all sorts of underlying threats in that relationship, but in standard relationships I can’t handle a lack of consent. At all.
- Cheating. Full stop. If a character wishes to be involved with someone who’s not their current/primary partner, I really prefer polyamory to be an option rather than sneaking around. If cheating must happen for the sake of the story, I prefer it to at least end in mutually agreed-upon and discussed relationships.
Puppies are not a kink at all, but the inclusion of them in stories is always appreciated. Especially if they are a) fuzzy and/or b) extremely large.
And that about sums it up! Once again, thank you so much for writing for me; I hope I’ve given you enough to go on.
