Loser is gone for good

Last night Ramiro got a call from his friend Craig telling him to come to my house to help hold Hassan back. When we got here, my mom was sitting on the couch with an ice pack on her left eye, describing to a cop what Jay looks like. Hassan was so angry he was shaking. Apparently, when Hassan got home from work, he heard our mother screaming in her bedroom. Jay was running out, saying something about "you know I would never hit your mother". Hassan ran upstairs and found our mother hysterical, with a bloody nose and a black eye. Hassan turned to run after Jay, but mom stopped him and told him to call the police. Apparently, he hit her when her eyes were closed. She has no idea what he hit her with and isn't even sure he meant to. The cops laughed at that. They explained that if it was an accident, she wouldn't have that much damage to her face. Her eye was so puffy, she could barely see out of it. She's at the doctor's right now, having it looked at. Jay is in jail. He will be until Monday and maybe longer. The way California law is written, he will be prosecuted whether my mom chooses to press charges or not. They got a picture of her eye and that's just about all they need. I did what I could to help. When they were asking if he'd ever been violent before I asked my mom, "did you tell them he threatened you on numerous occasions?" My mother glared at me, she'd never taken the threats seriously. The cop wrote it down and smiled at me.
I had known for a long time that he would hit her. I was just waiting for it.

Now for something funny. This is an actual answer to one of the questions on a job application at my work:
Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do you follow directions?
A: Really good
